Anyone following golf games at all? I almost bought Woods '05 before realizing '06 is probably around the corner. Anyone know hte release date for '06?

What ever happenned to Links?

Any other good golf games out there? Or is Tiger Woods '06 going to be the best thing out there upon it's release?

Thanks,
me

I miss Links. It was more ofa sim compared to Tiger Woods whcih is a bit cartoonish in comparison if you ask me.

Any other thoughts?

EA has an exclusive license for the PGA, so most of the other golf games dropped out. I don't think there are any others left.

That's a shame if you ask me. But makes sense. Links was always the best :(

The early versions of Links were awesome. I loved the PowerStroke feature in Links 99.

I'm hoping the Tiger Woods game can eventually get like the Top 100 golfers as players you can be. It'd be cool to play as Els, Mickelson, etc

Does Woods 2006 look like it will be worth the extra cost? I know in the Madden games its basically an updated roster and thats about it, which is not worth it.

2005->$20
2006->$40
(prices from walmart.com)

I got '06 the other day. So far its not much different than '05 except for the retro stuff, and online people are having real problems with the new "ready play" mode. For those of you that really golf, ready play is for speeding up play when you are being pushed from a group behind you. Once you get to your ball, you hit it instead of waiting for the farthest from the hole to hit, as you would with normal play.

Big problem doing that online. The lag it causes some people is terrible, and I end up playing the entire round with people bitching about lag. Think of it, four golfers hitting at once on the (already poor) EA servers. It's just too much for them to handle. In our foursome last night just two people had teed off, I was getting ready to and the guy says "finished, birdie". For the servers to track all that causes HUGE problems, so all I can say is if you get it, turn off ready play in your options.

Courses are nice, play is a bit harder, graphics are about the same. Wait for a deal if you want to buy it IMHO.
