Question for any golfers here who have a Cleveland wedge.

What is the difference between the gun metal vs the crome or BRZ.
Has anyone played both? And is there a significant difference?

I think the gunmetal is for a softer feel and probably for faster swingers. I've never played with Cleveland wedges but I used to work at a golf course pro shop.

ususally the different finishes are for spin and feel. if you buy the rust kind(i forget what the finish is called), they actually do rust on purpose. the rust creates more spin.

No it doesn't. The raw finish that rusts is merely unchromed. The chrome plating that's nor mally used slightly, and I do mean *slightly* narrows the grooves. The narrower grooves will provide a tiny tiny bit less spin in some circumstances. That's it, rust has nothing to do with it, a rusted raw finish wedge does not spin any more than an unrusted raw finish.

The different finishes are mostly for aesthetics rather than performance. Some guys like the look of a chrome wedge and some like a duller finish. The manufacturers noticed that a lot of players were intentionally removing the chrome from their wedges to get the duller finish, so they began offering wedges that were unchromed to begin with. They were very popular, but they rusted. Many of the guys that liked the unchromed look didn't want to deal with rust and the manufacturers came up with difference finishes to accomodate them. Gunmetal, oilcan, etc are merely ways of appealing to the eye by providing a dull, non-glare finish that rusts less than raw. Pick the one that suits your eye the best, performance is about the same.

Just be aware that Clevelands finish isn't all that great. If you buy gunmetal the black coating wears off and the raw metal underneath will eventually start to rust.

It's not Cleveland model, but I have used all 3 types of wedges..

Gunmetal , Chrome, and BeCu wedges..

I currently use the BeCu wedges, because it feels more solid.

I skull the chrome across the green, and chili dip the rusted... or sometimes vice versa. That's the only difference I see.

Yeah, the chrome ones are notorious skullers and the RTGs just love to hit it chunky. For people who have trouble with the normal finishes misbehaving, there are alternatives.

Try this

Or these.

BTW, I've got the gunmetal version of that first one. It's exactly the same, just with a dull black finish rather than blue. It's a sweet wedge, easily as good as the Cleveland or Vokeys.

I've got a AW, DW, SW from Cleveland. I believe they are 797s or BeNi. I'm not sure if they make them anymore. I couldn't be more happy with them. They are very easy to hit. Those clubs and my putter are probably the only clubs I will not switch.
