Goldeneye:Source out of beta

I just tried it, felt pretty generic deathmatch shooter. Music and skins were actually really well done!

I love Goldeneye but I honestly don't see much point in this. If I'm feeling nostalgic I'll just fire up an N64 emulator.

This is amazing! I can play a game suffering from extreme nostalgia glasses on a 7 year old engine... Golden Eye was not that good, get over it. I understand that was the first FPS most people played and it left a soft spot in their heart. It wasn't the best when it came out, and still isn't today.

GoldenEye defined my late middle, early highschool years. Don't knock it.

Knock, knock. I wasn't impressed with Goldeneye when it came out. Some of my console playing friends raved about it, but I was busy playing MUCH better PC FPS games at the time.

Goldeneye was the first great multiplayer FPS to go to console, thats the reason why so many people have a soft spot for it.....

plus the n64 controller was perfect for FPS games (at the time)

do you have a good n64 emulator? last one i had didn't run on x64...

I played this game a while back when it was in beta...kinda happy for it to be finished.

I am not a competitive player really, so I played maybe an hours worth of Goldeneye multiplayer. I loved the single player though, does the mod include that?

i play an absurd amount of games and the original goldeneye was very fun

game play wise it was just as good as anything on the PC at the time..

dont see your gripe

in fact a lot of pc games at the time could have learned something from it

Nice, grabbing it. Valve should put this up on Steam for download w/ the other mods they've been cool enough to put on Steam.

Were you playing them while all sat together on the couch huddled around a small TV?
Most of the appeal of Goldeneye was the party aspect, sitting around a screen on a (comparatively awesome) FPS game (for consoles), and then raging at the dude who picks Oddjob.

I picked up a new N64 controller and installed an emulator, basically just to play Ocarina of Time, but I played Goldeneye recently. Maybe I'm just spoiled by modern controllers and 2 analog sticks but I found it almost unplayable.

Agreed, it aged like milk

You just need to adjust the controls. You can make the C buttons function the same as a second analog stick. Its not quite as good, but the biggest difference is that if you got used to say Halo, then its kinda reversed from that. We did that one time, were playing Halo, and then went to play Goldeneye, and it was like playing drunk. Some of my friends had Halo setup so that it controlled the same as Goldeneye, so it wasn't bad for them.

Goldeneye was fun, but it was also the age where fine-aiming wasn't as much of a factor in multiplayer. You could do it but it really slowed you down (stopped you, actually...no mobile iron sights in this game).
