GoldenEye Source Beta 1

Just tried facility, I can't belive how much time went into making this! There's the occasional bug, but other than that it's a great game(or mod?).

Odd this just came up... as I just installed this yesterday! Definitely one of the greatest mods around.

I like it. I knifed someone the other day and felt soooo good doing it.

Granted, this won't pull time away from CS: Source, but...

Could not sleep last night so I played this for about an hour or so. Pretty fun overall, though I eventually just switched over to CS as this started to get a little monotonous.

Some minor gripes:

1. Are there any other game types besides DM? I typically hate DM and those were the only games I saw being played, may just be a coincidence though, I mean it was 3 o'clock in the morning.

2. Also, are there any different weapons? All I ever had was my knife, the PP7 and the good ole' slappers 😀 it would be nice to have something different.

3. A couple of the maps I was playing on were too large, it took way too long to find anybody.

4. No crosshairs for the PP7, which made it somewhat difficult to aim, though I started getting used to it after a while.

5. The respawn is a little wonky sometimes. Most of the time I would respawn in a few seconds but there were many times I died and the camera just stayed on my corpse for a while without respawning or doing anything...a little frustrating.

I will try it out again tonight.

My rating: 7.2/10

KT

I did a quick test on a few maps and found tons of other weapons. It might have just been the server you were playing on.

Yeah, I hope they just aren't trying to stay 100% to goldeneye multiplayer options, considering you could only have 4 players in the original and potentially a LOT more now thanks to the new engine and the internet.

4. No crosshairs for the PP7, which made it somewhat difficult to aim, though I started getting used to it after a while.
This better not be the norm, it is so easy to take a dry-erase marker to your screen and "cheat" with no repercussions other than a potentially guilty conscious.

Yeah, you are probably right. The weird thing is a couple of times it looked like I had picked up a new weapon, but I did not see anything added to my weapon selection menu 😕

Not sure what you mean about the dry erase thing, but I definitely would like to have crosshairs for my guns. Not having them makes it so much more difficult to surprise/hit someone long range when you are pretty much guessing where your shots are going to land.

You can bring up crosshairs by holding shift (default). Keep in mind this is following Goldeneye for the 64 as closely as possible and that didn't have crosshairs.

For the brand new player, no crosshair is not great. However you do get used to it. I used to play Call of Duty on realism servers without one. I found I did better without the crosshair than with it after awhile.

I remember playing the Alpha version of this last year. It was quite fun playing as James Bond and making Half-Life/James Bond references like 'I like my headcrabs shaken, not stirred.' and 'From Black mesa with love' with other players on the server. It is definitely the Half-Life 2 best mod I've played in a long while.
