I was at my local corner store.
it has a Golden Tee game.

the owner of this game was there checking on the stats of the machine.
it displayed on the screen.
coin-in, $ to store, net profit and a few other stats that I don't remember.

coin-in was like $200, $ to store said minimum $250 or something like that, license fee was like $50, net profit was -$100.
it was end of month and needless to say, the game owner didn't look happy.

Interesting. I would have thought that the store owner would have received a percentage of the earnings, not a flat rate for the space. Hmm.

I don't know why but, in my experience, all the game and candy machine providers I have dealt with in the last 40 years have all been sleazy.

I used to play arcade games back in the early 1980s.

Just thought you should know.

I would imagine it's dependent on the place and the vendor. For some games, you don't rent the machine, you have to buy it and they are expensive. Street Fighter 4, for example, was hated by arcade owners in the US, because it was like $20k per machine AND they would only sell them in pairs.

lol Between them and the small loan guys, what are the upper echelon guys that you do deal with?

And the bigger question...what do you actually do to make $$?

Reminds me of some Vice piece about a guy that made a living off of selling Homie figures that go in those bubble packages.

What?!? People that run machines that target kids are sleazy? Next you'll tell us there's something a bit off about carnivals.

Whomever takes out the trash at fast food restaurants? Doesn't take much to get less sleazy than those two professions. Of course its plenty easy to get sleazier as well (management at corporate banks pharmaceutical companies, most lawyers, pimps, strip club owners).

What is your particular issue?

So you do what?

I guess by "sleazy" I meant unprofessional. The owner rarely shows up again after negotiating a contract, they're slow to repair faulty machines and, show little interest in replacing machines that do poorly.

You live in a place that still has an arcade? Everywhere I've been in the last decade they've died off and are just a distant memory. Why mess with an arcade game when you can go home and play BF3/4, fly a jet or join a massive MMO like Star Trek Online? They went the way of the dodo bird and the coin operated phone booth.

I guess Golden Tee isn't popular anymore? Back when I was in college, guys would rather pump money into those damn things than get drunk and talk to girls. Never did get into it.

I do think it's still popular but the difference now is that pretty much every bar has a machine now. Used to have to go to a specific place or two to find them.

My college was in a college town...so it was hard to find a place that didn't have one. lol

Having a minimum $ amount before paying out probably makes a lot of sense for the vendor, by keeping their games out of places that don't do enough business. That's a lot of capital to have tied up somewhere not making money.

Because it's still fun to go out with friends and enjoy their company and do things together. It doesn't have to be a whole arcade, just something at a bar that you can play along with pool and darts.

I was thinking about the last time I actually saw an arcade game and it was in a Walmart up in the extended area in front of the registers. It didn't last a year but they tried.

Sounds like section 8 landlords.

I am amazed that in the 21st century we still have arcade machines.
More astounded people actually play them in bars.

I'm flabbergasted at the amount of time/money some people seem to put into Golden Tee. Not just that, but that some places obviously get enough business to have the newest Golden Tee every single year. Yes, every year... from what I've seen they release like EA games
