Weird, there are plenty of them in Minnesota and Wisconsin. I remember going to Khan's in Roseville like 20 years ago, and in recent years new ones have shown up all over the place. There are several different places in the Twin Cities, there's one in St. Cloud, and there's one out in Appleton by my in-laws too.

Kahn's is the best, I eat there every time I return to the twin cities. Absolutely marvelous food.

GC is nasty

I went into Home Town Buffet once to chat with a buddy, they made me pay even if I didnt want to eat. So since I payed $15 I tried a plate and it was disgusting. Pretty much like TV dinner food. It might be a stereotype but you do see obese people scarfing down 10 plates. Its like a Chuck E Cheese for obese people.

I like Golden Corral, but it's like a freakshow when you go there. It's like the People of Walmart all get together and eat dinner at the same place. You always see people in their pajamas, people so fat they have to use two chairs, several kinds of facial deformities...I'm afraid to go there anymore.

Hometown buffet sucks ass, I am not aware of a Golden Corral close by to even try it.

Hometown was decent 15 years ago. At least, the one here was. Last time I went, though, was like 10 years ago, and the demographic has changed a LOT since then. Not sure I'd want to go back.

I haven't tried Golden Corral yet. We got one about 4 months ago. It's always packed.

I've seen ads but I've never dared enter.
Same here. Not "never dared enter" just "didn't get around to it." When I see the ads -- ~$10, steak, shrimp, tons of other stuff, deserts, chocolate fountain -- I think two things:

How do they make any money?

How bad can it possibly be?

I just noticed that the one nearest to me (not all that near) closed. I'm not that disappointed.

My Dad loved food and loved eating out, but you couldn't get him to eat at just about any buffet. He just wasn't attracted to and never fully trusted "batched cooked and then left to stand around" food. The only one he and my Mom (and I) would go to served lobster tails, which was about all they'd eat!

The first time they took me, at about age 9 or so, I was all fired up to get a desert with each self-serving. My Dad told me that was forbidden. It wasn't, of course! 😛

Not really worth the price, IMO. I usually just get a salad and one plate and then MAYBE a little bit extra. It's always like $15 with a drink.
WTF? I do the same at the Boone GC, but it's only $7 for lunch and $10 for dinner.
Well worth it for having a little variety during meals.

For those who are complaining about troughs, what are you Asian and trying to get the max worth your money? Just eat normal portions. Hell, something like that at a local chain joint (Perkins, IHOP, Denny's, Applebees, whatever) will easily cost you ~$10 + tip anyway.

Don't think I've ever been to a Golden Coral, although they are around here. Years back (late 90s) though me and a bunch of friends would go to "Old Country Buffet" after a night of heavy drinking and you just couldn't find entertainment like that anywhere else.

There was one particular family that was there every single time we went, with one fat kid (probably around 8 years old at the time) that would always be playing with a toy T-rex in his mash-potatoes.

This was back when Nextel's were somewhat popular, so we hid one in the garnishments they had around the buffet food buckets, then sat at the table and two-wayed people going up for their 10th helping.

I can't believe you people actually enjoy Golden Corral. I walk in there and want to vomit at the sight of obese adults and children stuffing their faces with peanut butter cake, rolls, and macaroni and cheese.

This. My wife will not eat there anymore because of the fatties. Me, I always make sure my back is to the buffets, that way I can eat and not get disgusted. My kids love it, too. The GC by me had a salmonella outbreak several years ago that killed a little girl and made dozens ill.

Peace

Damn it, you guys are making me hungry here. I am in Asia right now but planning to go to GC once I am back to the US.

Any Body ever try Perry Boys Buffet?
Damn in the day they were the best.
Children...no problem the parent were given hand cuffs!!

It was not unusual for them to serve Crab and Lobster fresh to your table...

I eat breakfast there with the guys T work once or twice a month and the banana nut French toast is ridiculous.

It depends on where yur at. The ones in Virginia are quite nice actually. In fact now that you got me thinkin about it I'd like to starve myself for a couple days and head up to my local one. But I am trying to get skinny and that aint the way to do it.

I'm not a fan of buffets of any kind. The food's usually mediocre at best, and the value is in eating a lot of it. I can't really eat a lot at one sitting, so I end up paying more for food I'm not that crazy about.

the only kind of buffet i bother with is chinese now and again.

i avoid golden corral like the plague.

I imagine it's kinda hard to get the food thru that helmet. Noodles I suppose would be easier. You can just guide them thru the little holes in the mouthpiece. 😀

Maybe some of you have been to really shitty Golden Corrals? The one in Green Bay is frickin great, and the one around Livonia downstate MI is fine too.

That, or there's a lot of uppity pussies here. Probably both.

Even Chinese I don't care for. It's not the quality of the food, but the quantity. If I were getting Chinese, I'd rather just get carryout. They're uniformly generous portions, and I can get 2 meals for the same price as 1 buffet.

I've seen ads but I've never dared enter. Haven't been to a buffet style restaurant in a while (except Mongolian barbeques, those places are awesome).

They should rename it the Golden Trough.

That's all anyone calls it around me.

Absolutely garbage too, some of the worst quality food I've ever tasted.
