I ran an old coaxial cable directly from the cable line to my TV b/c that was all I had lying around. The feed was terrible and snowy, but I thought it was b/c the line was split so many ways there wasn't enough juice.

I bought a gold plated coaxial cable from our favorite cable supplier, monoprice, and lo and behold, I get clear channels. It even picks up the channels faster when changing the channel.

I don't know if it was b/c it was an old cable was just old or b/c the new cable was new and/or gold, but much better now!

<goes to replace other TV with gold plated coaxial>

It's probably because the old cable was oxidized. Gold actually has a HIGHER electrical resistance than copper, but it doesn't oxidize in the air. Oxidization = lots of resistance = bad reception.
