Within the last month or two, I've had a really bad case of zits beneath my chin and cheeks, near my neck. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. I outlined the "area" where I am getting ALOT of zits (I'm breaking out there I suppose).

Example Picture (The old dude is not me!)

Now I want a visit to the dermatologist to be a last resort kinda thing. However, I have read around some websites and have found some good info. Unfortunately, I don't know if their good, legitimate info or not.

Acne Do's: Definitely use a benzoyl peroxide or salicyic acid cleanser to fight pimples. A very good product for washing your face is Proactive Solution. It gets rid of that acne within a week, in most cases!

Cleanse the skin with a benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid cleanser, apply an alphy hydroxy, and then use a toner. Then use an acne fighting medication to the skin along with a moisturizer.

Use a facial cleanser such as Clean and Clear's Cream Cleanser or Biore's Facial Cleanser. I will list more of my favorite products later.

Apply a topical acne treatment containing benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, or salicylic acid over your entire face, not just where blemishes have already erupted.

Temporarily reduce redness and swelling by dabbing on a drop of drugstore cortisone cream, Preparation H, or Vasocon-A eyedrops.

Remove all makeup before going to bed. Use mild cleansers like Cetaphil or Neutrogena to wash your face. Mild exfoliating cleansers and scrubs also may be used but ask your doctor first.

Top 10 Acne Fighters
1. Accutane Acne Treatment
2. Proactive Renewing Cleanser
3. Cetaphil Cleanser
4. Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
5. Neutrogena Cleansing Bar
6. Serious Skin Care Dry Lo
7. MetroGel Adult Acne Treatment
8. Differin Acne Treatment
9. Pond's Clear Solutions Overnight Blemish Reducers
10. Clinique Acne Solutions Night Treatment Gel

Now I had these pimple problems last school year. They slowly faded away as the summer went by. My neck/chin area was clean again. In the last 2 months, they've started to erupt again. I'm assuming this is all from stress because in the summertime, I have absolutely no stress. With college acceptance crap to deal with, that definitely adds on stress.

I'm getting sick of this itchy, pimply, ugly skin. I'm gonna head to Walmart later and see if I can get some treatments. My friends have also recommended Oxy pads. What do you guys recommend I get at Walmart if I can find it there? I know I can find the Neutrogena stuff there. Please help me!

i always had decent luck with the nutragena bar.. but just use it directly on your face.. no washcloth. Or perhaps just a big tube of the nutragena face cleaner.

How much of it though? My friend used that Proactive stuff and he said it made him break out even more. However, I'm guessing he put too much of it on his face. I've read around that you should only put a little amount of it on -- don't oversaturate it.

I've also read some other wacky remedies such as rubbing tomato juice over your breakout area as it contains Vitamin C vital to replenish your skin quality.

Accutane was the only thing that helped me; it cleared up 90% of the acne. I may end up going through a second treatment.

Is Accutane a prescribed-only medicine? Or could I find it in a Walmart?

i've had similar problems, mostly on my neck as well. i'd recommend the proactiv products but they're pricey i think. something with benzoyl peroxide should be just as good. also, make sure you don't touch your neck a lot as the oil/dirt on your fingers can be the trigger for more pimples. you might also want to make sure it's not ingrown hairs.

when i was about your age i ended up going to a dermatologist because my acne was pretty severe and more widespread than just my neck. he prescribed accutaine but that is pretty intense. you have to have your blood tested every month to make sure it isn't affecting your liver and you have to use a moisturizer on your face because it gets very dry. the treatment did work however and i thought it was well worth it.

good luck

I've used Proactiv and had great results with it. Costs around $40 for 2 months supply, but worth it.

YMMV

Accutane is definitely prescribed only... it's some serious medication. I don't consider myself an emotional guy at all, but when i was on it, i definitely felt the effects of depression.

And where'd you get that top 10 list of treatments? Proactive as #2 is extremely strange (it's crap). And that list doesn't even have Retin A.

I got that Top 10 list from one of those womany sites...I think it was Ivillage.co.uk.

So I should go to Walmart and find something that has a small concentration of Benzoyl Peroxide (that Clean and Cleanser thing has 10% of it).

I touch my neck alot cuz it itches like hell!

How do I tell if it's ingrown hairs? I'm 17 and I don't shave yet (yes, I'm asian). If I were to shave, it is going to hurt like hell!

Or Differin Gel or several antibiotics that are usually prescribed with the aftormentioned topical creams. IMO, the topical treatments work great as an exfoliant. Both the Differin Gel and Retin A dried out my skin and made it peel, which was great for blackheads and scars. The antibiotics I took worked best for actually preventing new pimples.

I hate acne threads. I feel like such a geek.:frown:

I believe 10% is the highest concentration you can get. Some are 5%. Many products use Salicylic acid (Oxy Pads).

Don't touch your neck unless you do it with a tissue or you just washed your hands. If dirty, it will only make it worse.

Yeah, antibiotics is a good thing to try before Accutane. Seriously, it's not a medication to be fooled around with. I've taken it twice now because my acne has come back, and i don't think i'll take it a 3rd time, even though it's the best thing i've ever used.

For non-prescription stuff, Sage is worth a try. I've been using it for a bit, and it's great... but i've been cleared due to Accutane as well, so hard to say it's effectiveness. But check the message board there, i think it'll impress you with how well it is.

How often are you using it? I've found, the more I wash my face, the faster the sebum glands excrete more oil. Unless you sweat excessively from sports or heat, you shouldn't ever have to wash more than twice or three times a day.

yeah, i'd say check the ingredients and look for benzoyl peroxide if you're going to try a walmart remedy.

if you don't shave it's probably not ingrown hairs.

Yeah, while I was looking up treatments for acne online...I came across a tip saying that though washing your face is good, washing it too much will irritate your skin.

I use it once a day (morning). Sometimes, I will wash my face off in the afternoon if it's really oily.

Try Health Boards and go to their forum. They have the most active acne forum that i ran into... but just to warn you, there's a lot of wacky ideas there, so you'll need to use your own judgement.

So to sum up my itinerary for Walmart...

- Get something that has benzoyl peroxide in it (those cream thingies)
or
- Get something that has salicyic acid in it (Oxy pads)
