Going to UFC 102 tomorrow in Portland

As a longtime MMA fan, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow: my fiancée and I are headed to UFC 102 here @ the Rose Garden in Portland. We spent a little (read:a lot of) coin and got good seats.

Anyone else ever been to one or going to this one?

The card is actually pretty decent:

Main card

Heavyweight bout: Randy Couture vs. Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira
Light Heavyweight bout: Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
Middleweight bout: Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
Middleweight bout: Nate Marquardt vs. Demian Maia
Light Heavyweight bout: Brandon Vera vs. Krzysztof Soszynski

Preliminary card

Middleweight bout: Ed Herman vs. Aaron Simpson
Heavyweight bout: Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Chris Tuchscherer
Heavyweight bout: Justin McCully vs. Mike Russow
Heavyweight bout: Tim Hague vs. Todd Duffee
Middleweight bout: Nick Catone vs. Mark Muñoz
Lightweight bout: Marcus Aurelio vs. Evan Dunham

I'd like to see Randy win, but it's a tough one to call. Nog has looked terrible lately, and Randy is older than dirt, so who knows. It's the main event but really other than seeing two legends it's probably the fight I'm least excited to see on the main card. My predictions:

Nog gets a decision over Randy
Jardine TKO (strikes) over Thiago Silva
Leben will KO Jake Rosholt
Nate Marquardt will KO Demian Maia
Vera will TKO (strikes) Krzysztof

This is the first card in as long as I remember that I am not going to add $40 to my cable bill to see.

Ill be going to a bar and paying a $10 cover, that is about it. Boring card.

It will still be fun to be there though. Have a great time.

I hate to say it but it looks like one of the worst fight cards in a long time. You never know though it could turn out every fight is bad ass. On paper though it looks bad there is no top level fighters on the card.

Yeah, the thing is, some of these cats are fighting for survival in more ways than one. Lose and you end up fighting bush league for much less money. That should result in some intensity and do or die cornered rat combat.

I've never been to a UFC event, wouldn't mind going to check out the atmosphere though. I would probably end up in cheap seats where I'd have to watch it on the jumbotron. At which point, if it isn't a fun party in the stands kind of thing, I'd be better off staying home or hitting the bar.

I've been. I went to the one in Chicago and had awesome seats (2nd row, behind the media). We were surrounded by fighters, although most of the popular ones were on the other side of the octagon. Chris Lytle was on the end of our row, Pete Sell (who fought that night) was sitting up behind us. Some of the TUF cast was next to us, Matt Lindland was in front of us to the left, Jeff Curran was directly in front of us, etc. Overall, it was an amazing time - and everyone was really friendly. You'll have a blast even if the card isn't the best. Let us know how it goes!

yeah it jus tdon't look good. Though i got a PPV of a cardl ike this (very poor) but it was one of the best PPV's i had seen. it seemed like EVERY fight was good. wish I could remember which one.

but i gotta admit im not getting this PPV

I predict 4 KO's/TKO's on the main card.

And no I have never been, I would not enjoy it as much as the bar. 50 + big screens and smoking hot waitresses ftw.

There's some good ass fights on this card. Maia has some of the best Jiu-Jitsu in MMA, and Marquardt is a monster. I'm also pumped for Leben and Brandon Vera.

I've been to 3 of them. The early ones in Augusta, Charlotte and Mobile. In Charlotte we were sitting about two rows from the cage and got to see Royce Gracie fight Kimo. We also saw the monster Manny Yarbrough get his ass ridden like a horse by Keith Hackney. Hilarious. I also was at the fight where Pete Williams knocked Mark Coleman out with a side kick. I also got the opportunity to talk to Coleman at the UFC in Augusta. Pretty cool dude. I loved going to these events, but now after so many years I hear that there are the tough guys with their Affliction shirts on acting like total dicks. If you go to Sherdog, the dude who got into a fight at the last UFC (Florian-Penn) actually posts a video of him getting roughed up by some assholes.

Anyway, you should have a great time, especially if you have good seats. I hope Soszynski sticks Vera real good. I've always liked him when he fought in the IFL and was pissed when he lost on the Ultimate Fighter. Don't forget Big Nog is what.... 33 years old ( maybe in dog years!) That guy is one of my favorite fighters and I laugh every time I see how "old" he is. I bet you he isn't a day under 40. He is a beast and Couture should have his hands full. The Maia - Marquardt fight should have been a headline for an Ultimate Fight Night. It should be the best fight of the night.

Have a blast and tell us how it went.

Peace

WTF is wrong with Yves Lavigne? Leben tapped and Lavigne let him go to sleep. But Leben's sub defense was pretty bad.

MMA-TV is bck up on sopcast.

Well, we're halfway there. And both in less than a minute into the first round.
