I did this on lots of vacations. We would go to some cabins and there would be a turtle race every Friday. Catch a turtle, put it in a holding tank, and then race it on Friday (the cabin owners would properly feed the turtles in the tank). I think it is still a bit cruel. There was a good way to win that involves animal abuse and a warm oven. Please don't do anything cruel like that.

Ok i'll expand a bit, but please don't do it. Turtles are reptiles, reptiles are cold-blooded, cold-blooded creatures move slower when cold and faster when warm. I think you can figure out where the oven comes into play.

ok at this place in Venice, CA...what they do is u pay $3 for to get a personal turtle...

they put about 4-5 of them together in the center of a circular mat about 8 feet in radius...they are put in a plastic cylindar with no bottom...when the lift the cylindar the first turtle to get to the edge wins...and u win some really random prize

i think last time they said...fastest race was 30 seconds...longest about 35 minutes...

they do 3 different "weight classes"...basically midgets, medium, and large turtles...

and about 3 different races for each class

last time i went...one turtle got right to the edge and just stopped for about 30 seconds...then finally just reached out with 1 arm and won as another turtle ran to the edge on the other side....

my turtle was a little slow last time...he was in 2 races...the first one he didnt move...then they blew the whistle to say it was over and he took off at hyper turtle speed...
the 2nd race he ran full speed at the beg., stopped...took a 90 degree turn and ran in the other direction

Obviously not. Dead turtles can't run very fast.

Well, obviously it's still alive.

Give your turtle a warm bath.. and some speed.
