I'm leaving for the Dominican tomorrow morning. I speak some Spanish and think I'm fairly well packed, but does anyone have any tips? Cultural things, perhaps? Thanks.

That's nice, but I'm not staying in a resort. I'm going as part of a mission and will be spending time in Barahona and Santiago after landing in Santo Domingo.

That's a shame, because the other thread posted about DR made the place sound really promising :D

I just got back from it last week, and let me tell you if you don't stay in a resort, there aren't much else outside. When traveling from the resort to a golf course, everything looks like a third world country, oh wait, it is... And that's near the resorts. I don't know how other parts of the country look, but I can't imagine it being any better.

Now, the resorts, there are a few things you can do there...

To make short story even shorter, I got a nice tan out of it, and I'm peeling, and itchy. I wouldn't go back there if they pay me.

Bring lots of sunblocks (SPF 100+ if you can), bug spray (there were reported cases of malaria) and drink ONLY bottled water. Mangu (near Punta Cana) is a decent club to hang out, they have people on stilks, fire dancers and midgets on the bar. Good times...

Edit: I also learned that Banana Monkey is a well rounded drink that include most of the food group, Bailey + banana + chocolate blended = good for breakfast too.

Edit 2: Lock yo shiets up, or they'll steal it.
