Going to tanning place?

The weather is getting really nice, which means daylong season is here. That means I am going to be wearing a lot of jerseys, meaning my back/shoulders will be most exposed. I've been working out really hard all year, too, so I am kind of excited for this.
However, I have some spotty acne/scars on my back (face is clear - thank you retin-a). Whenever I get a sunburn/tan, my back clears up like 99%. This year, though, I didn't go anywhere for spring break and the UV index isn't high enough to get a decent tan outside yet.

Because of this, I was thinking about going to a tanning salon. My skin is pretty white, which I don't really care about much. I, like most people, look better when I'm tan, but my main concern is the acne. But... because of that I feel kind of funny going to the tanning salon. I would probably only go into the 'bed' for like 5 minutes? That seems goofy to me.
Anyone have any experience? Should I look for a hollywood (ultimate?) tans? Or would a no-name place be better? Price doesn't matter. What about those little eye guard things? Does the place provide them?
What do you think when you see pasty people at a tanning salon? What about males there? I care a lot about what people think...

It will be soon enough. I used to start getting burned some time in April.

I know... and in the past I've always just spent time outside to get tan, but it's daylong season right now! By the time the sun gets higher, I'll already be home for summer, away from all of the sorority girls.
I want (be normal and) wear jerseys/sleeveless shirts, but self conscious about my back. A tan/burn would fix, that, I think. That's why I'm asking other people the deal about tanning places...

Don't. You will get more pussy if you're tanned, though.

I just use tanning lotions; they work okay as long as you don't over do it. Fuck getting cancer in a decade or two for some fleeting pleasure now. Or maybe I'm just showing my age and wimping out (24 😀).

Here's what /I/ think of tanning salons since you care :^D

I think they're...

Lame, and cater to shallow people
A waste of money and time
Paying to get skin damage when you can get it free is stupid
The color is off on the tan they provide, and it looks artificial

The new tax should drive a few more folks back out to the free sunlight. (thus canceling out the expected revenue increase)

Don't go to a tanning salon.

I don't have the study bookmarked or anything, but it was shown that going to a tanning salon once can double you chances to get melanoma. WHO has declared tanning beds as a carcinogen, by the way.

And melanoma blows.

And contrary to what someone above stated: You can get the melanoma a whole lot shorter than 10 years down the line. The girl who gave the presentation I saw on it was 24 when she got melanoma, and had been tanning since she was ~18.

I go for a quick tan when it's getting nice so I'm not pasty as hell when I go hang out in the sun. One time is not a big deal, go if it'll make you feel better.

drinking outside the frat in beautiful weather with beautiful women... wearing jerseys, party shades, and trucker hats. bro.

Just go to the tanning place. Go twice a week for 6 or 7 minutes at a time and you'll be fine. No one cares about who goes there...yadda...yadda...

You might get a tiny bit red, and if you do, don't go back until the redness goes away. But, once the redness is gone, you'll be good to go and can tan on a set schedule if you want.

Yes, I have done this before.

i think im going to go today. i go to hawaii in a week and want a better base tan. when i go in what do i ask? just like "yo bitch can i get a tan"? how much is it?

am i gay?

I go once a week for about two months out of every year. I don't get much sun otherwise, so I don't think I'm adding enough to my lifetime cumulative radiation exposure to worry about it. In my experience, it's the guys who spent their entire lives working in the sun who are constantly having to have cancer spots removed from their exposed portions.

Just don't get in the habit of going year round.
