We've booked a decent hotel From Jan. 16 to 22 with great reviews, right on the beach, rented a car for the week. We're hoping to take it easy for the most part but good food and art and culture is high on our list. She'll be 23 weeks pregnant (yes we've got a doctor's OK, ladies, so ease up) so I'm not going to force her to watch me ride ropes through the jungle or climb a volcano or ride scooters, so bear that in mind.

But if anyone has been there, drop me some names and places. We were originally planning on going to Florida for some warm weather but low-to-mid 70s this time of year is frankly not warm or tropical enough for us at this time. We would have booked in the keys, but we were able to secure airfare and accomodations to St. Croix at just about the same price, so we figured why not.

We plan on spending most of our time on the beach but we'd like to explore the island a bit since we'll have wheels. Not to mention we live next to the beach here in RI and we get plenty of beach time in the summer. I'm a casual drinker and she's pregnant, so the youthful party scene is not desirable for us. The last thing we want to do is go party with college kids anyway.

Went to St. Croix a few months ago and stayed at the Carambola beach resort. It's a beautiful beach and an extremely chill crowd but to be honest, there's really not much to do at St. Croix BESIDES just relaxing. Best activity to do is generally scuba diving (lots of marine life). Be sure to visit the beer drinking pigs at the Mt. Pelier Hut Domino Club in the middle of the jungle. Christiansted is the largest town and has some great restaurants and bars. Fredricksted is relatively quiet and is just a stopping point for cruise ships. Just east of Christiansted is a casino. For the sake of novelty, i believe the eastern most point of St. Croix is also the eastern most point of all US Territories. Depending on where you're staying, there's good opportunity to go hiking to some isolated wave pools etc.

Hope this helps. To be perfectly honest, i get kinda antsy just relaxing on the beach all day and St. Croix was a whole lot of relaxing (and restaurant/bar hopping). I certainly wouldn't compare it to somewhere like Hawaii (where there's a ton of "active" activities). Otherwise though, it was a great trip.

well scratch scuba off the list... but being 23 weeks pregnant maybe you two can do some easy snorkeling.
