Going to single monitor from dual setup--problem with the "ghost" monitor!

Recently one of my customers went from a dual-display setup to a single-monitor setup. She's having a problem where just one program--a professional geographical information system (GIS) application--keeps opening one of its windows in the desktop that used to be on the 2nd monitor (that's now gone). I've removed the second monitor entry from the Display Properties-->Settings-->Advanced-->Monitor tab. I've disabled the secondary VGA output port on the video card. The Settings tab no longer shows two displays, just one. Yet the GIS application will still open the window in the desktop area used before by the 2nd monitor. I say this because when you minimize and maximize the window using the taskbar, XP shows little exploding window animation going to the 2nd monitor.

I can maximize the window, which will maximize it in the first (and now, the only) monitor. But the window needs to be resized and not run fullscreen and as soon as I try any kind of manipulation, poof! It goes back to the "second" monitor. I tried the "move" and "resize" commands via the taskbar, but the mouse being on the first monitor didn't work.

So... any ideas on how to overcome this little annoying problem? Thanks.

on the taskbar, make it go to windowed mode. Right click and then choose move. Hold the left button for a while and it should come back over.

Purdue,

That didn't do it. In the end, we ended up temporarily hooking up a second monitor, extending the desktop to it, opening the offending window, moving it to the first monitor and control-closing it.

Thanks anyway!
