Going to sell my baby... how much is she worth?

I think I'm finally going to part with my 2001 Honda Civic. EX, 2 door, silver coupe, tinted windows, 22,000 miles, 35-40mpg, no rice.

I bought it as a salvage (and got into another accident with it 🙁 ) and definitely overpaid for it ($10,800), but it didn't give me any problems. The SRS light is still on, and the mechanic I took it to told me that the airbags should work fine, the light's just on because of a glitch in the wiring (or something to that effect? I'm not good with car-speak). Just got new tires and a new battery.

How much do you think I should try to resell it for? Or should I just do a trade-in? My parents would feel safer if I drove around in a bigger car (think heavier 4-door), so sadly enough, I'm going to have to part with my baby soon. I've never sold a car before, and am not sure where to start.

Of course I'll be coming back to ATOT with "what car should I buy with [money I get from this sale here]"? 😀

Thanks in advance... EDIT: misspelled "tires".

I don't think you'll get much for it since it has a salvage title... if it hasn't given you any major problems i'd keep it if i were you... or you could trade it in. Just my $0.02.

<--- saving up for a car 🙁

I'm hoping to find someone like myself to sell it to. 😛 I really think the car is fine, though... like I mentioned, it hasn't given me any trouble at all, and hopefully I can find someone who won't mind the salvage title.

They will screw you in the trade in since its a salvage title. I would stick with private party. I would also really make sure if the air bags really do work or you could be liable for it if anything happens. You can be upfront about it when you sell the car.

Sell it as a project car to a future ricer 🙂
Checkout ebay and look at other salvaged civic's and see what they go for.
Goodluck

I'm gonna think it would bring $6500-$8000 depending on the place where you sell it. According to Kelley Blue Book, the car is worth 10,420 in fair condition but his assumes a clean title. The salvage title will probably hurt that price however.

"finally" part with it? You just got it.

It would've been a year this August.

I'll definitely be honest and up front about the salvage title... after all, it would only take a quick Carfax inquiry to pull up the info. When I bought the car, I wasn't sure what buying a "salvage" was, so the title didn't mean that much to me.

When I read the title I was thinking about the -real- baby, as in the diaper-wetting/organic/newborn/wriggly toes baby :Q 😱

you can't hide it anyway, i believe the actual-title-paper is black for salvage and pink for non-salvage.

i could be wrong!

Is it a 5-speed and what was the extent of the damage that was repaired? Was it a quality repair? Any current damages? What the overall shape of the vehicle, and coudl you please include pictures 🙂

Agreed.

The dealers will kill you in a trade-in because of the salvage title... Try and find a private sale, post ads in your local buy&sell papers or find local automotive forums to post in...

Best value, is to get into an accident, and have the insurance company repay the value of the car... and you might get a bonus if you're willing to fake some injuries. Of course, the accident can't be your fault!

It's automatic, no current damages... I don't know how much damage was repaired the first time, but the second accident I was in cost under $5,000 (all cosmetic - driver's side door only) and the place I took it to was recommended by several people at my workplace. It came out looking like new and ran just fine. No funny noises, no shaking, very smooth ride. Sometimes the CD player skips when it's going over bumps, but my friend just bought me a new one and will be installing it this weekend. Guess I'll just throw that and the new system in for free. 😛

I really don't think she wants to die in the process of getting money for her car.
I dunno but that's just me.
Person who buys a salvage isn't gonna pay close to what the car is worth in decent condition.
People who purchase salvage titles buy salvage for a reason. Either they know you really well enough to trust you about the history of the car, or they want a significan't amount of savings.
