Going to see Tool tonight. What should I expect?

Has anyone seen then in concert. I heard they are pretty good. I hope they play a lot of old stuff.

definatly one of the best shows that i have ever seen. maynard is awsome... kind of crazy/weird up on the stage... but still... they put on one hell of a show (caught their concert in minneapolis not too long ago and i must say.. it rocked!)
 
I went to the same show that silver did and I must say it was amazing!!!! You should always keep an open mind when you go into a show and usually you will come out feeling satisfied, but I would say that going is definatly an experience to look forward to.

It is more of a stage show than anything. I saw them back in 1993 when their first album came out and then again in 2002 (few months ago, friend bought me a ticket). They are very mellow now and it is more of lights, images and sounds. It is pretty cool and you will miss a lot of the experience if you don't pay attention to the images and maynard onstage. I definately prefer the Genitorturers when it comes to stage shows, so when the Genitorturers tour in 2003, go see them!

Normally I go to shows with rough pits. Last show I went to I bruised 2 ribs and stabbed in the leg with a ball point pen.
 
I just went and saw them on the 21st and they still put up an amazing show. I saw third eye live!!!! 🙂 Yup, my life is officially complete. Hope you have a great time.

I saw Tool last month in Milwaukee with Tomahawk.

I must say that Tomahawk was ABSOLUTELY THE WORST EXCUSE FOR MUSIC I have ever seen. We thought they were maybe doing a joke and sounding horrible for a while and would then start jamming and be decent. Everybody was yelling at the band, flipping them off, throwing crap onstage, etc until they finally left.

(Think of Tomahawk as a group of high school kids playing in their talent show; only these kids are totally deaf and cannot even hear what they're playing)

I would recommend skipping Tomahawk if they're still touring with Tool because of how much they suck; however, because they suck so much it's almost worth seeing for a good laugh.

Tool Rocked - sound was great, screen show was great, song list was awesome - couldn't have been better. That's all that needs to be said.

Note that they did perform one song with 2 dudes from Tomahawk who did not suck during that part, but they weren't playing their "music" anymore, so that doesn't count.

Definitely worth seeing.

Nope, no Tomahawk anymore. Now they're on tour with Meshuggah again for a little while longer. If you don't like Swedish death metal, they probably won't appeal to you either. I notice that most of the bands that TOOL tours with aren't bands that the fans typically like but last year when I saw TOOL w/ meshuggah, I thought they sounded horrible. Then I saw decided to listen to some of their music that wasn't live and see if they were good. I really liked them after listening to their stuff. Then I saw them at Ozzfest and they sounded 10x better than the last time. Now I saw them w/ TOOL again and they sounded poor. I think for certain bands, the sound engineers really make a difference. It wasn't 'bad' like the music was bad, it was just difficult to hear the vocals over guitar and what not. I never expect opening bands to sound nearly as good as the actual band I'm there to see since they're not usually as great as they could be. Take it as you will though.
