Going to See Louis CK Tomorrow

I haven't seen his new show because it doesn't seem to air here. I did catch Lucky Louis and his stand up on TV a few times. He's also on the Opie & Anthony Show pretty regularly. Louis CK is one of the funniest comedians around today. Should be a fantastic show.

i think its supposed to be so awkward. the awkwardness makes it more realistic imo.

The awkwardness makes me relate. I often feel I have the exact thing to say, just not the means to say it, so I try to compromise between friendly and honest and come up completely awkward.

His show definitely feels more "real" than most others I see on TV, and the comedy flows naturally as it's a response to the awkwardness of being a gumpy mofo who's only gift is a quick wit.

He's funny, but sometimes it becomes apparent that his schtick is just bitching about everything.

I know 🙂

I love Billy Connolly! I went to see him live, and I actually fell of my chair laughing, the man is amazing.

It's a goal of mine to take a tour of the UK, based upon which comedians are where.

Even if the shows suck, I can still drink a good pint.

Definitely, I love going to see a good stand up, I've seen Billy Connolly, Ricky Gervais, Michael Mcintyre, a couple of other little ones, in september I'm going to see Stephen Merchant, really looking forward to that! My brother just saw John Cleese 🙁 Lucky...

I'm jelly, American Jelly, so I guess Bacon Jelly. The only real comedian I've seen live is Weird Al. Perks of living in a tiny town, I guess.

It makes me lol when people compare comedians, comedy isn't a competition. If it was, everyone would win because smiles and laughs are abound. There are better comedians and worse ones, but what does it say when a bad comedian can still make you laugh?

I love the UK's rich tradition of using language to make one laugh, cry, whatever. You guys live a gray life(stereotypical rainy skies gray) but know how to make plebs emote, and I say, "Well done!"

I agree, if entertainers entertain then what more can you want?

I love the way we use language in the UK, it's a fantastic thing, we have a rich culture of using language for humour and we do it well. You'd probably enjoy watching some videos of stephen fry talking about language.

I probably would. I find it the height of speech when one can say something that is innocuous on the surface, but changes how people think when they hear it. Comedians do it, great dramatists as well.

The art of speech seems to be missing in action in America, people say what they mean, and they say it so the most get it; it all seems a bit crude. I think people should say what they mean but disguise it so those that know: laugh, cry, sigh or whatever what said elicits, but those that just came to the party don't know what's going on, so they respond with bravado. The british seem to have this art as second nature, and Americans(ST) could only hope to be as subtle or powerful with their speech.

Yeah but I feel like there are fewer other relevant people doing stuff now. He was just as good in his earlier days but there were more other people on par with him at the time.

I agree. Comedy is past its peak in America. Dane Cook and Russell Brand are modern comedians. Media realizes they haven't brought forth good comedians lately, so they go back. Why do you think Tommy Boy has been on Comedy Central?

I love that Louis is finally getting his due, and I bet he's happy too. What I respect is that he seems to realize that it's a roller coaster and he portrays the lows, because he knows it's right around the bend again. Did you see the episode with Joan Rivers? That episode sums it up perfectly 🙂

So the show was a riot. He used completely new material that I'd never heard before. How he can keep pumping out an hour or more of fresh material every year astonishes me...

He was definitely one of my favorite comedians, until I watched the one where he spewed his ignorance on Europeans being the dominant culture since the beginning of recorded history. Other than that, his stuff is hilarious.

Eh, he does a lot of jokes simply for the shock value.

If he made that joke for shock value, it's fail. It sounded more like he honestly believed what he was saying.

well, Europeans weren't really recording much history around the beginning of recorded history....

but from, say 10something to now...he's got a point.

You can debate between western-central Europe and continental Asia, but I don't know who else would be part of that discussion.

I'm pretty sure Louis CK is stalking me.

I'm a white, middle-aged, single father of two. If I were a lot younger and had no kids, I probably wouldn't connect with his material the way I do now.
He is taking some freedoms with season two. More about life than just straight jokes. I like it, but it's not traditional tv comedy. I like that he doesn't seem to desperate to bend to the network and do a straight sitcom. You get the feeling he'll do it for maybe a few more years, say what he wants to say, and walk away.
