Hey guys,

I'll be graduating this year from school and i am starting to make plans for after this school year. Well since i am moving to Arizona next June.. :p i'll most likely be going to school there, Possibly Arizona State, or a nice Tech School...

I do have a few questions though...

Should i go to a Tech school? or college? I did see a few things at the Devry Inst. that looked pretty nice... I figure i have to do between 3-4 years anyways...

Is it EXTREMELY tough? I can build and roubleshoot now, but i wanted to know if it is out of my league.. .

I know i have plenty, I MEAN plenty to learn... but i am willing to do it...

Can someone shed some light on this for me...

Thanks . :)

Bryan

System analyst = 75% people/business skills and 25% technical skills. You would be MUCH better off going the college route with an MIS/CIS degree with maybe a business/accounting degree on the side.

The business end of things(accounting principals and practices, financials, ect) will be invaluable, and some thing you will NEVER learn in a tech school. Most system analyst positions I've seen were put out by accounting/insurance/or business related companies. You basically interpret what an end user (read: accountant/finance officer/ect) wants, and then relay that back over to your hardware guys. You are the go between. Being technically sawvy is important, but not as important as being able to talk to the people who are paying you.

you wont make much money there. Business is very important if you want to rise in the ranks.

Exactly...

I have to start small first, like gettin A+ cert. and other things..

I think i could do well in A+ with a bit of studying...

But bottom line guys, you think college is where i should go for this?

Just me speaking here from what I've seen, but about THE ONLY employers that would look at a tech school student vs. an actual four year college grad would be a consulting company of sorts. Just about any business small or large, wants a college educated person for their roundedness.

hmm whats the difference there...

A LOT!

Sys admin - Handles servers(file, email, web, ect), troubleshoots networks, automates processes, pushes software installs, enacts anti-virus policies, ect. ect. ect. Jack of all trades guy. Sort of top of the tech food chain. Behind the scenes guy that usually hides in an office or a server room :)

Systems analys - Like I described earlier. They are a middle man between the end user and the technical guys. They take end user needs, put it into a plan, and then turn it over to the hardware guys to make it work. Have to be able to take technical information and relay it in leymans terms to non-technical business users. But, on the other hand, they have to be able to take end user requests, and put it into ways that the hardware/software developers understand.

a systems analyst designs systems for a company. For example, a system that takes boxes of parts scanned in and creates a warehouse database with the part, where it is, when it ships, how many, etc.

I just went to a podunk little 4 year liberal arts school and graduated with a B.S. in C.S.

I interned for a fortune 500 company while in college, and just got lucky when it came to current job.

So a Nice tech school wouldn't be enough for me to be certified as a System Adim. ?
