Going to purchase the following RIG - Suggestions

I have been watching the boards and asking questions for the last month. I have come up with the following rig to put together. I still have a couple of questions on RAM, VIDEO CARD, NETWORK CARD and CASE. Once those questions are answered I will make the purchase.

Thanks all for your help.

CPU: AMD 3500+ (Winchester)
MB: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
RAM: 2 x Corsair 1gb valueselect pc3200

VIDEO CARD: ASUS nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 256-Bit, TV-Out/DVI, PCI-Express, Model "EN6800/TD/256" -RETAIL
OR: Leadtek nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 256-Bit, TV-Out/DVI, PCI-Express, Model "PX6800TD-256M" -RETAIL
OR: XFX nVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT Video Card, 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, Dual DVI/TV-Out, PCI-E, Model "PVT45GUD" -RETAIL
OR:

SOUND CARD: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro PCI Sound Card
HDD 1: Western Digital 74GB SATA RAPTOR
HDD 2: SEAGATE SATA 200 GB
HDD 3: SEAGATE SATA 200 GB
DVD BURNER: NEC 3500A
NETWORK CARD: ???
PS: Enermax Noisetaker 600W
CASE: Cooler Master CM Stacker Full-Tower CASE, Model "STC-T01-UW" -RETAIL

Any reviews on the XFX?

For the VIDEO CARDS. They were the only three I could find that were 6800 GT PCI-E.

If anyone knows about another card., and where it can be purchased, let me know.

Thanks again.

Video Card: BFG 6800 GT OC PCI Express from Chumbo.com, $399.99 shipped. This is the best 6800 GT PCI Express manufacturer out right now, without a shadow of a doubt.

The sound card might be a little excessive, but looks like you're getting a high-end system, so whatever. I'd say that the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card is a much more economically sensible alternative, but that's all different if you plan to use the inputs on the Audigy 4 (I am pretty sure there are inputs on the 5.25" drive bay input interface that is included with that particular model).

I'd suggest the Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB 16MB Cache SATA hard drive instead of the Seagates. I'd also suggest two Raptors in RAID 0 and one storage hard drive instead of two storage hard drives, unless you need the 600GB of space or you plan to do RAID 1, 5, or 10 for data protection/redundancy.

Don't need a network card. The ASUS motherboard has built-in dual Gb LAN.

Great PSU choice. Absolutely no qualms with it.

Can't comment on the case, since I've only researched Mid-Towers, but sure, why the hell not? I'd suggest checking out Lian-Li for some really nice high-end cases.

All in all, that's one tricked out computer. I am ful of envy, my friend. I'd say "Good Luck" in building your computer like I usually do, but you can't go wrong with anything at those price levels.

EDIT: w00t, all NVIDIA GeForce 6 series GPUs are measured in GDDR3. The BFG is OC'd straight out of the box, and has a lifetime warranty. Really, you can't beat it unless you get one with Gainward written on it, and Gainward hasn't even mentioned making a PCI Express version of the 6800 GT Video card, to my knowledge.

Thanks. I will check out the BFG 6800 GT OC PCI Express from Chumbo.com, $399.99 shipped.

I just left ZZF and they were $699 back ordered.

Why such a price difference? Is it a remanufactured board? I guess it does not matter if the RMA process is good. Any problems with RMA?

Yes, I want the external SOUND CARD hook up.

I need lots of storage space for VIDEO CAPTURE.

The items I did not put in, I already have.

VIDEO CAPTURE: PINNACLE 7.0
DVD-ROM: Creative 12X

I will need a good monitor/ LCD but can wait. Any suggestions?

I will check out LIAN-LI. However, the reviews on the above case at NEWegg.com looked pretty good. Can't hurt to look though as the COOLER MASTER does have some drawbacks, but what doesn't?

Not sure yet. I am guessing around $2000. It may be more.

As of now it seems I will not be able to get the BFG 6800 GT PCI-E as no one has them in stock.

I will attempt to hold out one more week on the video card and start purchasing every else. I just need to finalise the components.

If the 6800 GT is a bust I may have to go AGP. Although I would hate to spend money on the MB and VIDEO CARD that would be better spent on the PCI-E set up.

Which brand for the 6600 GT PCI-E?

Any of the top brands are fine: Asus, BFG, eVGA, leadtech, XFX, etc. I would just get the cheapest one from a trusted company. Also make sure that you get one with the ports things you need (VGA, DVI, tv-out, whatever), though they usually come with adapters.

How about this one?

Xfx Graphics XFX nVidia GeForce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3, 256-Bit, PCI-E / PCIe / PCI Express, Dual DVI / TV-OUT PCI Express

Latest update going with AGP video until PCI-e becomes cheaper and more of a selection.

Purely for looks really. But you didn't mention the stacker before, that is the best case ever, room for 2 power supplies, an insane amount of drive bays, good choice

good luck.
let us know what your final pricing turns out to be if you dont mind.
im hoping to use many similar components. not sure if i want to wait on a pci-e 939 board or go with an agp soln. i have no intent to go the sli route. and i'll prob get a lesser cpu to save some bucks and use the sound on the mobo.

Thanks.

I am still in the process of researching the best overall prices/deals.

I have a database set up in Excel and am cross checking everything including shipping. When I finalise it I will post the prices and vendors.

I am hoping to get this done this weekend because I am still having major issues with lock up and reboots on my 3 yr old computer. I just loaded service pack 2 and updates and that did not fix the problem. I believe I need a complete wipe and install but cannot take down my computer until I get a new one up and running.

Yes, I have run spy bot, ad aware and norton and still have issues. One time Microsoft said the problem was with my audio drivers recommending updating to "Crystal SF (WDM) Audio Drive" I am running Hercules Guillemont Game Theatre XP external sound card set up with the last drivers they put out which was two years ago. So do not know why Microsoft is suggesting a foreign driver.
