I've been in Seattle a year and my friend's starting a full-time job out here as well. We have about a four day weekend before he starts and I though it'd be cool to go to Oregon. What cool things are there to do?

Here are two things I definitely want to do:
-Crater Lake
-The coast, which I heard is beautiful

don't get dysentery.

okokko, enough.

I don't know much about the scenery, but downtown Portland is pretty gloomy imo. Pearl District is quite nice however.

anyways, I am guessing you are into scenic stuff, why not check out the wineries all over Oregon?

We'll be driving a lot, and there are plenty of wineries in Washington,..

Start driving on the Coast in Astoria and work your way down. You can cut over at Kelso/Longview and that way you can cross the bridge into Astoria (pretty cool actually). The coast in Oregon is one of my fav places on earth. Plenty of camping too.

Astoria is where they shot part of The Goonies :D.

Multnomah Falls in Portland. Lots of stuff in PDX to do.

Crater Lake sounds fun.

Four days doesn't give you a lot of time. Crater Lake is a good day's drive from Seattle, and it's worth a day or two there (take the boat tour and do some hiking). You also want to allow at least three days for a leisurely drive back up along the Oregon Coast.

As you are heading down to Crater Lake, check out the Bend/La Pine area. The Cascade Lake Highway is a good drive.

Check out the Newberry National Monument there in Lapine. If you can get up on the mountain, you can check out the obsidian flow, or go into the lava caves around scumriver.

4 days is not enough to do the coast and Crater Lake. A good drive would be to head South on 101 to Reedsport then take 138 to Crater Lake. The best thing about that drive is that it takes you AROUND the Willamette Valley. So many people who visit Oregon never get out of the Willamette Valley and it is NOT the best Oregon has to offer. The drive I have in mind would get you to Crater Lake in about 4 days, if you stopped and enjoyed the sites along the way. You would need another day or 2 to get back to Seattle.

Your best bet would be to stick to the coast, and do it right. Be sure to stop for a bowl of Moe's Clam Chowder, there are Moe's at Otter Rock just north of Newport, in Newport and Florence. Take your time and enjoy the drive.

All due respect, Pike Place market has better chowder than Moes. That being said, good suggestions.

To be honest I think you'd be better off sticking around Washington. If you've only been here a year you haven't touched a million different places that are much closer. San Juans, coast, Rainier, North Cascades, St. Helens, Olympics, etc. If you haven't been to any of those places, skip Oregon for now.

Crater Lake is best fit into a bigger trip. Yosemite/Crater Lake is a great combo, for example. But to use your four day weekend driving all the way down there seems pointless when there is so much close by.

Bagby hot springs is an awsome place to go. However try not to leave your car unattended or if you do leav it in a camping spot. Every time i went up their our car was broken into.

All these things people are suggesting are great ideas but it's not like they're all close to eachother.

If you go to Crater Lake from Seattle it's going to be tough to fit a ton of other stuff in in 4 days.

All good ideas here, just make a plan. :)
