Nope it wasn't that bad. MAD props go out to rockyct here in ATOT who hooked us up pretty damn well with gate admissions and such. Carried in our own water, juice boxes, lunches etc. The only expense I had was at the LEGO shop, but even that wasn't that bad, and at least I had some LEGO hardware to show for it.

Honestly, to me, LEGOland was meh.... it was neat, but it needs some serious revamping and it has to do SOMETHING about the long lines for a 20 sec ride. Kids liked it though (though I think it was partly a brave face) so that's all that really matters.

Tomorrow is Disney, Friday a "free day" which should likely be laying VERY low around the hotel/beach.

We did take the PCH down from LAX so I did get to see the boobie power generators that you guys spoke of earlier.

Glad you're enjoying our fair state. It has been cold lately but today was freaking beautiful. I spent most of today working on base molding in our family room. I'm wearing shorts right now which is something I've done rarely since last October.

Friday I'll probably be around but Saturday I'm going up to Long Beach to hang in the pits at the Long Beach Grand Prix. I have all access passes for the entire weekend so that should be cool, even though I'm only going up there on Saturday. I'm taking my DSLR and a few lenses so I'll post some pics.

Meh the cold was nothing really. Glad to be part of your record breaking lows :) Though it was a tad disheartening coming to CA to get COLDER weather than back home in WI (though 1" of fresh white stuff is expected tonight with 63 degree by Saturday...)

La Jolla is nice, lots of great restaurants and upscale shopping there but you'll need a car to get there and parking can be a bitch. All the coastal cities are nice and unique in their own way. Great beaches too but the water is COLD right now (mid 50s).

suggest going down La Jolla Blvd. a ways, & maybe staying at the "Sands" Motel.

it USED to be affordable, and it's centrally located - easy access to good beaches, restaurants in La Jolla, etc.

there's a Fry's in San Marcos and down near 15 & 8.

beware Great Whites - i suggest reading up on recent attacks -
April 2008 & fatal -

and sightings - November 2002
http://legacy.signonsandiego.com/sports/outdoors/20021130-9999_mz1s30power.html

that was Mon. Nov. 19, 1/2 mile west of La Jolla Cove.

i suggest getting a face mask & checking out the water before your kids go in. on a nice calm sunny day, the sting rays literally carpet the bottom. if your kids go hopping skipping & jumping into the surf, they stand a good chance of stepping on one. not fatal but not fun either.

You have me literally rolling on my side with laughter. Seriously? What beaches do you go to??

I felt the same way when my wife and I took our daughters there last year. They loved it, we were indifferent about it.

Ahh the boobs of San Diego. You know you're in California when you spot those suckers from space :)

So say you were in Oceanside and had to catch a plane in LAX at 12:30 on Saturday morning. What time would you leave? (I will calculate in the car rental return on my own). I assume there will be traffic to contend with, but being Saturday I'd expect/hope it to be less horrific).

Thanks in advance.

Oh, Disney was impeccable as always yesterday (though PACKED....but getting a family of 4 in for $50 total with 1 day park hoppers made it more bearable).

Did some Whale Watching today in Dana Point. No whales spotted, but we did hover around a pack of 500+ Common Dolphins for 20 mins. Super cool.

I would estimate 2 hours travel time.

Sorry you didn't see any whales. I've only been whale watching once since I've lived here and that was a couple months ago...and I've lived here for 20 years. BTW-I've only been to Disney once and I've never been to Lego Land. :p

I hope you were able to experience the Wild Animal Park. It's a lot to pack in to a week though so I understand if you couldn't. I hope you enjoyed our wonderful state. I love it here. BTW-I finished up my home improvement project today. Tomorrow I'm off to Long Beach to hang with some friends and drink some beers.
