being able to experience the cold sounds really fun.

ahahahaha

you are gonna regret saying that when it's 10 degrees out...

Actually the temperature averages 44 degrees for the time that we're scheduled to be there. That is still cold, but with jackets and bundeled up and everything should be all part of the enjoyment.

Not sure what your budget is but you should try to make nice dinner reservations.

Where specifically would you recommend?

Carmine's or Nobu.
Carmine's I've had and Nobu I always hear good things about.

Carmine's is good. Big big portions.

Nobu is great! Make your reservation soon. Their sushi is great.

I also recommend just walking around the west village and looking for small cozy restaurants. I highly recommend Focacceria. I've been here many times, and it never fails. They always have a $20, 3-course prix fixe. Nice cozy, romantic atmosphere too.

Lots of good suggestions already.

I would avoid the Empire State building unless you like really long lines. Rockefeller Center should offer nice views, and you buy tickets in advance for specific times.

Don't forget to visit FAO Schwartz while you window shop along 5th Ave.

Be prepared for crowds. I love NYC in December, but it's one of the busiest times of the year.

Dude, definitely do the Lion King. You should be able to get tickets now. Your hotel may provide tickets. If not, Ticketmaster is a good place. As far as food, there are sooooo many places to eat! Make sure you try some of that NY Pizza! And if you like Cheesecake, if you can get out to Brooklyn, go to Juniors!

I've gotten recommendations specifically for The Lion King, Wicked and The Grinch-all for different reasons.

The Lion King because of its production

Wicked because of its story

And The Grinch becuase its the newest and christmasy

Why do you recommend the Lion King? The tickets for these are expensive and our time is limited so we can only do one and I'd like to go to one we'll both enjoy.

We'll be there from Dec 15-18.

Obviously the typical things also- the empire state building, central park, a museum (which one?), ice skating, hot chocolate, shopping?.?

We're staying in the Midtown area about a block from Times Square. Neither of us have ever been and I'm totally stoked. Coming from California where christmas time is always sunny and hot, being able to experience the cold sounds really fun.
I recommend seeing the Rockette's "Christmas Spectacular" @ Radio City Music Hall.
Also, go ice skating in Central Park or Rockefeller Center.

If you really have some dough to blow go on a gentleman's cab ride right through the city and get a little guided tour in the process.
