My mom died last night and the funeral is this weekend. I don't have any suits or any black shirts or anything. My dress clothes consist of khaki pants and some colored shirts (blue, burgundy, etc).

Is this acceptable or do I need to buy a black suit? I don't really have the time or money to get a suit, but I will if necessary.

Ah. Its just going to be a small gathering at the cemetery itself. My immediate family. We may or may not get a priest/preacher to do whatever it is they do at funerals.

My condolences...I'm sure you have much more on your mind than worrying about to wear. I'd like to think that anyone in your immediate family would begrudge you for wearing what you have to the funeral.

I wouldn't think it would really matter what you wore then, as long as you looked nice and presentable.

Wear black trousers and a white shirt. You dont have to wear a suit if you dont have one.

Sorry for your loss

I was going to come in with a joke, but that immediately went out the window after I read the first few words of your post.

You have my condolences.

Sorry for your loss :(

I'd say if it was an extended family member, any kind of kahki and dress shirt should work, but since it's very close family, I'd step it up to a tie at the very least.

I am sorry to hear about your mother.
You can try a Goodwill store for a suit.

condolences.

it's your family, so whatever makes you comfortable. IMO, black is not necessary for a funeral (I've been to several). a suit would be a good choice though, but no need to make a funeral and drabber than it already is..
