Going to make my mom an offer on her car.

My mom has a 96' Honda Civic LX 4dr, 5speed, with 152 000KM on it. Also has ABS and AC.

Now she doesn't want to sell her car, but if I make an offer she can't refuse on it, I think she might take it. The reason I want her car is because I know it's not a lemon, she takes great care of it and gets it shoot for rust protection every year etc etc.

She has a problem right now with her car. The check engine light is on. I asked around on the ATOT and apperently it's an emmision problem. But shes going to get that checked out.


How much should I offer her on her car, and how could I convience her to sell it to me? I really want this car, but it's also my first car and I'm not rich.

Stop being so selfish. It's not like you want her to sell it so she can get a better car. You seem to want it b/c you know she's taken good care of it. If your mom doesn't want to sell the car, don't try to convince her to unless you have her best interest in mind. I don't know how old you are, but grow up and stop taking advantage of your own mom.

i was thinkning the same thing.
 
I wouldn't take advantage of my mom. I would give her a fair price on her car. I wouldnt' be ripping her off at all.

Plus she is always going on how much she would like an automatic, well here's a chance to get one. Since she does a lot of city driving, I think she would really enjoy an auto. Also her car isn't has a lot of miles on it. I learned how to drive on it and so did my sister, so her clutch is pretty much finished, and she has problems with her transmission when she puts it in revers.


I'm not being selfish or taking advantage of her at all. I was even about to buy her a remote started for her birthday, but installion would cost an arm and a leg on a used/manual car. If she got a new car I would get her one.
 
Offer $100, find a horse and cut the head off and put it next to her in her bed while she is sleeping, she will accept your offer........ ;-) Actually she'll probably ground yer a$$ but hey, it worked in the movies........

Emmision problems.....

stop, turn around and walk away. I am serious, unless its a minor emmision problem i really dont know what can be done. My 1994 Toyota Tercel with 130,000 miles has had a catastrophic failure in teh emmision system. The whole thing has failed. starting from teh cat.converter to the EGR and O2 sensor. The only thing that survived is the MAS (mass airflow sensor).
Its in teh shop getting fixed at the dealer. Just those 3 cost something in the order of 1000+.. ofcourse my car is getting other stuff fixed like the clutch which is now fried and my cv boots.

He just thinks emissions is the problem based on replies (not mine) to the thread about the check engine light. I'm reasonably certain it is the vehicle speed sensor. The speedometer stopped functioning for a few minutes, then the engine light popped on. It's pretty obvious to me that the check engine light is on because the OBD system recorded a fault with the VSS. It's no big deal.

I called up my mom and talked to her about her car, and I offered her 7500$ for it, she refused, then I looked around in newspapers for civics and saw a bunch of them at good prices, automatics and manuals. I saw a couple good deals in which I'm really intersted it, but I called my mom back to ask her if she would be intersted in "switching" cars if I found a good deal on an automatic. Like I would buy the auto and we would exchange and she would pay the difference and she seemed pretty intersted in that.


Anyways, weather she says yes or no, it doesn't change much to me anymore because I found a few good deals on 96-97 civics.

So I should just forget about the whole thing, and just look for a car for my self. And if she wants to trade for an auto she can do it on her own?
