It is possible on live on that income. I grew up in NYC's Chinatown where my dad was making less than that, and supporting a family of four. We didn't have many luxuries, but we managed. The key is to be disciplined, and extremely frugal. No computer toys, no broadband, no going out. Just the bare necessities. You will survive, but it will be a tough ride.

But hey, whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?
 
Currently, NY Min. wage is $6.75. By January 1st it will be $7.15. What internship pays below minimum wage? You have sh!tty connections.
