Going to Ireland in a few days

In a few weeks my family and I are going to Ireland for a little vacation. The only problem is we don't know where in Ireland to stay, or what to see. We're thinking of renting a house for a week, and we'll also be renting a car, so we have plenty of mobility. I am going to be taking a ton of pictures so the places I want to go to are going to be pretty scenic I hope. 😛
Also can any members who live in Ireland or have been there recently tell me what the alcohol prices are like in the pubs?

I was over there last year and had a blast. I think it depends on what you want to see as to recommend where to visit. Beer in pubs was usually 4 euro a pint for Guinness, Murphay's, Beamish, Stella, Heineken, etc.

It is now freezing cold and wet in Ireland. I would have suggested you go see some of the outdoors but it won't be visible for the rain.

You will take as many pics you can of the redheads over there.

Irish redheads make me feel funny in my pants.

Well I'm going to be there starting on feb 13th. How will it be then?

what part of ireland? where are you landing? how long will the trip be? It's off season so you can probably snag hotels or b&b's as you go. Ring of Kerry was great if you don't mind driving.

If you'll be in Dublin and drinking is your thing, check out the Guiness Factory, Jameson Whiskey Factor, and stop by the Temple Bar for a drink. There are many castles within a easy 30 minute train ride from the center of the city.

Other than Dublin I dont know much else.

Hey...just went to ireland....here are some tips:

Totally depends on where you're at. Ireland isn't big, but its big enough that if you want to see a lot of it you're going to be doing a lot of driving. The driving is very dangerous. Be careful. Small roads.

Now, as far as what to see- you really only need 2 days to see all of dublin. The museums and stuff are closed on mondays. Try to see it other days.

Galway (on the west side of the island) is very very cool. Its like a college town.

The mountain areas of Wicklow (just south of dublin) are absolutely gorgeous.

you'll read a lot about how awesome Killkenny is...i would skip it. Likewise with Killarney. Too many tourists.

Make sure to see lots of castles. If you have more specific questions ask.

EDIT-make sure to get GPS for your car. Seriously. I am a great map reader, but the roads are often very poorly marked.

I'm leaving in a few days, so any more ideas are greatly appreciated. I've confirmed that we'll be staying in county kerry somewhere, if that helps.

Must've gotten lost in the mail. O well. 😉

I only hopped over there for one evening (although it was St. Patrick's day) while I was visiting London, so I can't make recommendations. I will say that I loved it, and hope to go back some time soon.

Oh, if it's not too much trouble, could you bring me back a redheaded Irish lass? Please?

I'm going to Ireland the first week of March. Going to Galway and Dublin with some friends. Definitely hoping to have a fun time. Hope you have a good trip Rufus!

Cliffs off Moher are a must see if you get any break in the weather.

As mentioned, the Wicklow Mountains were beautiful too. I was indifferent on Dublin. It was cool, but really it's just a busy, overpriced city. I'd skip the Guinness and Jameson tours. Not really worth it IMHO. If you spend any extended time in Dublin, grab the bus & rail pass. You can get all over town quite easily with those. And the train goes very far north and south.

I never really made it far outside of Dublin other than to Galway (took the train), so I can't really speak to any of the areas outside of it much.
