having flown alone across the world at a younger age than you. I say no problems. When you arrive in India, depending on what airport your arriving you will see different things. If you dont have anything to declare on landing (they give you that slip to fill out) then just walk thru the green channel and smile on your way out.

Just make sure the hooligans outside customs in the arrival hall dont grab your bag trying to make a quick buck to help you lift your luggage into a car / taxi

Enjoy your stay.. india can be fun.

look up - he already did 🙂

Have fun on the trip! I'd love to be able to travel to other countries. I've been to Canada, which doesn't count, and my old girlfriend went to Spain last spring. All I got to see were a bunch of pictures; that's as close as I've gotten.

Nate

Canada doesn't count?
But. . . But. . .
Jessica Simpson told me we were overseas!
Bush told me we were against you!
Will you bloody Yanks make up your darn minds?

its a trick theyve already planned out the arranged marriage run run!!!!

hehe jk, hey im indian im allowed to joke around 🙂

haha, yea right, I would never do the arranged marriage junk. I already found the beautiful one, that I want to be my wife, though its still along way ahead.

India's gonna be a blast. You just have to go there with an open mind.
$10 says you dump that girl within the year 😀

How good is your spoken Gujarati? Also, can you read it? That'll help a lot in getting around. Still, you will be instantly pegged as a foreigner, so be very careful. Always have a relative or friend you can trust with you at all times.

Make sure you get malaria shots before leaving.

The water issue is very important. You will get sick if you don't drink sealed bottled water or soft drinks. Plus, don't assume that expensive hotels (aka restaurants) will be safe. I once got really sick in Nagpur after eating at a fancy place. I was sick for about 2 weeks. Home cooking is the safest and best. Most gujju food just simply tastes better there.

Most of all, relax and have fun.

16? Dude my sister and I, since we were 6, went back and forth to Tokyo and NYC by ourselves during summers. Of course on both ends we had people pick us up. It's a piece of cake.

Flying to India in Dec. by myself. I'm only 16. Is it going to be hard w/customs? I was thinking its going to be a pain when I reach in India, at the customs and all. Other than that it shouldnt' be that hard. But what are some good things in Ahemdabhad? Thats where I will be going. I'm going to be meeting my dad there. He is leaving on the 29th of November. But I was wondering what are some good places to go to? My dad doesn't really know much, he hasn't been there in 15 years, and the last tiem I went...I was only 8 and I hated the heat...but can anyone give me some places to go that are around Ahemdabhad?

TIPS:
+++Make sure you ALWAYS drink bottled water. Avoid street food. Avoid dairy.

+++Do your business before you leave the hotel for the day....you won't have a Starbucks to rescue you. 😉

+++ALWAYS negotiate with rickshaw/taxis. Learn the trip prices ahead of time from the hotel bellhop. Also don't let rickshaw drivers detour you to a bazaar (shopping area) on the way to your destination--it's their way of drumming up commissions from shop owners for bringing rich noob tourists to them. Be firm and don' take BS. Only do business with a driver who speaks English! If he doesn't speak good English, move onto the next driver to negotiate with (always many to choose from). Many drivers don't know their cities and will nod at your request just to get your money--communicating with such drivers in mid-trip will be a HUGE hassle. Avoid rickshaws if you can. I've almost been in serious accidents with rickshaw drivers almost running into cows or people running across the street.

+++Shop till you drop and ebay the stuff when you get back for huge profits. 😉 Jewlery has highest margins.

+++Don't travel between towns after sundown--bandit issues.

+++Bring earplugs if you're staying at a cheap hotel ina busy area--the noisy traffic will drive you insane when you're trying to sleep.

+++Be firm with begars, otherwise they WON'T leave you alone and will follow you around for quite some distance.

India is fun. Enjoy it, but take common sense precautions that are necessary in third world countries.

My Gujurati isn't that bad. I can't read it but can speak it pretty fluently, also i will be w/my dad when i get there, just the flight i'll be by myself.

ignore all the stupid comments about it being a hell hole

appreciate the place for what it has to offer rather than whine about what it doesnt,

be careful with food and water but have an open mind, enjoy the life and the culture, and the chics 😛 haha

Ahmedabad is known for its architecture , there are some really neat looking buildings, visit NID (national institute of desing), IIM (Indian institute of management).
