Kai920's information is spot on.

Of course, there are other computer centers, the Mong Kok Computer City, Wanchai Computer City and 298...

3. Stayed on the 14th floor for a month for free! My uncle came to teach here and I got to tag along. The school owned the apartment so I stayed for free, even had my own bedroom. Supposedly it was a very large apartment for Hong Kong at least.
4. Found these in the medicine market. There was a ton of weird crap lying around. Smelled horrible but extremely interesting to see.
5. And these too! :Q
6. Minibuses are the sh!t. The drivers are maniacs and drive like a bat out of hell. The minibuses are soooo much better than the double deckers though, and the octopus card is great!
7. Here is Asia's largest outdoor Budha. I thought it was way too commercialized. They even had a Coke machine at the top.
8. After your excursion around the Budha, you get to go trade in your tickets for a snack! Boy was that good eating. :p
9. These guys were there. I saw some get on a bus wearing Nike's but didn't get a pic.
10. No comment.
11. Good Ol' Hong Kong! It is my dream to move there one day, i just got to figure out how.

Anywho, that was my trip to Hong Kong. Hope you have a blast!

Helluva view!

That'd be me.

Depends what you really want, I guess. Causeway Bay and Mong Kok are the biggest places for shopping. Anything you want you will be able to find there.

I'm looking for Japanese/Korean consumer electronics mainly: PDA's, Phones, MP3 players, etc.

Also looking for nice jewelry and clothes for my GF.

Off to bed now, I'll check back in the morning.

last time i got to go back was summer 96, one hot nite was walking the streets in causeway bay
and came upon some guys who were selling armani (emporio) silks shirts for ~$18 U.S.
alas i was a poor new graduate w/ loans looming....

yea i had bootleg fever back then, but there was some kinda terrorist bombing then
so they weren't really lookin to separate a sunburned kid and his 20gamesin1cd loot

so how long u get to stay (i'm jealous as hell) any plans on taking the hydrofoil to macau and check out the new sands casino?

stuff in hk are not that cheap, if you are looking for a compact flash cards, etc, you are probably paying about the same as the US, maybe a few bucks difference for a brand name fast card. You could get a noname slower card for cheap, but then again, you can get that in the US for about the same price too.

you're going in the dead of summer ? Be ready to take 3 showers a day. I despised the humidity and it was only June then.

We had the typhoon signal 8 here 2 weeks ago. It didn't get to 10. Quite lousy, but at least we got the afternoon off.

Golden Computer Centre is located in Shum Shui Po.

richardycc is right with regards to cost though. A lot of the time, regular items will actually be cheaper in the US, especially when you factor in price matching and rebates.

If you are looking to buy electronics, only buy items that you cannot get in the US.

damm man, those are some nic pics., what kind of camera do you have, were some of the pics. taken with a tripod?

I can't seem to get my a70 to take sharp pictures.

Why is the Canon A60/A70/A75/A80 so highly regarded? A lot of the pictures I've seen taken with these cameras hasn't impressed me with their sharpness...

yeah i dig on that

Yup, that was very good. Also, I forget what they called it in Hong Kong, but I ate pigeon over there and it was actually kinda tasty. Lots of good food everywhere, and cheap to boot if you find the right places.

HK is part of the commie govt now. Enjoy your stay, but watch out when you try to take goods back to wherever you came from

I was there in China and HK about 3 years ago, buy all the dvds and put them in cd wallets in ur carry on. And shove in a few real music cds. Don't buy cds from the dude w/ blanket and on the street they don't always work!

I'm not looking for bootleg movies/music anyhow, I plan on buying real Cantonese movies as they are more expensive and hard to find here.

I went to Shengzen 9 years ago and it was a bad experience, as soon as we stepped out of the train station we were bombarded with beggars from the countryside. It was like that pretty much the entire time we were there, even though I am Chinese they could tell that I was a Westerner. I had a friend go there for business last year and he told me that everything was pretty much the same except that the city is more modernized with tall buildings, other than that its nothing special.

As for the humidity, I am really not looking forwards to that, I plan on buying a bunch of t-shirts when I'm over there to change into in the middle of the day.

Looks like I'll be heading to the Golden Comuter Center, thanks for all the suggestions. Now for what exactly to buy? Off to Dynamism.com for some suggestions....
