Going to Hong Kong in 5 days! WooHoo!!

I haven't been to Hong Kong in about 9 years, so naturally I forgot what to do and where to go there.

What I do remember is this one building that was full of computer/electronic stuff. I don't remember which district it was in either unfortunately, I do want to go back there and do some shopping.

I know that I should go to Victoria's peak and Nathan Road in Kowloon, Stanley Market, Causeway bay for shopping, Aberdeen Harbor to see the boat people and Central for the financial disctrict, but are there any specific cool places that I should go check out?

Someday I wouldn't mind visiting Hong Kong -- never been there but one of the things I would want to do is to buy electronics and computer stuff there. And HK DVDs -- I hear it's really cheap over there compared to ordering them online and shipping them here.

for me its $1.00 in Pakistan kekekek Asia is ALOT OF FUN DUDE!!! enjoy it while you can

like i did while i was in pakistan this past summer, i got alot of house decorative stuff like curtains, tables, crafted work that you wouldnt ever find in U.S. stuff like that.. but DVD's a MUST! cheers and enjoy

I thought the Fish District was a good place to go because you can see all the diff. types of fish they don't have in other countries.

There is also the Bird District. They're both in Kowloon.

Have fun getting everything confiscated in customs...

1. View from my apartment where I got to stay for a month! There is a large apartment building blocking the view if I were to turn the camera to the right a little bit. My uncle said they were new and a few years back you could see the entire harbor unobstructed.
2. And at night.
3. Stayed on the 14th floor for a month for free! My uncle came to teach here and I got to tag along. The school owned the apartment so I stayed for free, even had my own bedroom. Supposedly it was a very large apartment for Hong Kong at least.
4. Found these in the medicine market. There was a ton of weird crap lying around. Smelled horrible but extremely interesting to see.
5. And these too! :Q
6. Minibuses are the sh!t. The drivers are maniacs and drive like a bat out of hell. The minibuses are soooo much better than the double deckers though, and the octopus card is great!
7. Here is Asia's largest outdoor Budha. I thought it was way too commercialized. They even had a Coke machine at the top.
8. After your excursion around the Budha, you get to go trade in your tickets for a snack! Boy was that good eating. 😛
9. These guys were there. I saw some get on a bus wearing Nike's but didn't get a pic.
10. No comment.
11. Good Ol' Hong Kong! It is my dream to move there one day, i just got to figure out how.

Anywho, that was my trip to Hong Kong. Hope you have a blast!

hong kong is soooo beautiful. especially at night. you absolutely NEED to check out the night life/shopping there. its awesome. people every 24 hours, even on the weekdays!!! its like a nonstop party there. not to mention the incredible shopping (so expensive though). the kowloon district is really nice to go around at night and definately check out victoria peak at NIGHT TIME. geez its breath taking.

i stayed at the marco polo hotel last time i went. in one of their suites for a night too. hong kong was marvelous.

All rights so I'll check out the Fish and Bird markets in Kowloon but, I still don't know where to go for electronics!

As for the nightlife, any specific bars, clubs, restaurants that you would recommend?

for Computers/Electronics, go to Sham Shui Po exit D (red MTR line)

for Clubbing, of course Lan Kwai Fong (Central exit D)

damm man, those are some nic pics., what kind of camera do you have, were some of the pics. taken with a tripod?

I can't seem to get my a70 to take sharp pictures.

thanks Kai, any buildings specifically? I remember going into this relatively unassuming commercial 4 story building and inside was a huge marketplace of electronics. I have no other recollections however.

I was thinking about buying a new lens for my Canon SLR non digital and I hear that I can be cheaper in Hong Kong, I was wondering if that was true and if there are things that I should keep in mind when looking/purchasing?

777php, just go to SSP exit D (exit name is called Golden Computer Center) and it's right there. The entrance is at the corner and you're right it's relatively unassuming... the entrance looks tiny, but once you're inside it'll take you a few hours to look through all the shops 😉

Top floor you have to enter through the side door, but this is where most of the hardware is. Middle floor there's a lot of console PS2/N64/Xbox games/hardware, and the basement has accessories and a bit of hardware as well ( and a shop for DVD pr0n0s 😀 )

This place is best for computer stuff.. but if you want to look at electronics ie. cameras cell phones etc the better place is Mongkok. Only a couple stops away on the MTR.

Feel free to PM me if you want anymore detailed info!

I bought a Fujifilm A310 while I was over there. For the top two pics I placed my camera on the window seal and turned on the 10 sec delay, the rest it was just me walking around snapping pics of everything. I ended up having about 500 pics and a couple of little 30 sec movies of stuff.

I ended up buying about 20 vcds while I was over there (most were weird ass chinese films like "Human Pork Chop" and "666: Satan Returns"), and the customs guy in Dallas b!tched at me and said they were illegal, but I got to keep them. I also brought back a thing of Sake, a bottle of liquor with a lizard in it, and a bottle of wine that contained snake testes among other things. I didn't think about the 21 rule here in the states, but sure enough he b!tched about that too. Then I had to explain what Grass Jelly was (I had brought back 2 cans on it), and he let me on my way.

Awesome...I'll think of some good questions. Thanks for your help.

breath your last few breaths of fresh..*cough cough* american air before u go😉

but really, considering ticket prices, cost of time ur there would wipe out any savings u get from shopping😛 not much they have we don't have. pirated stuff had more allure when cd burners cost 10k.

I'll try to take as many pics with my aging Canon S30 and Canon Elan7.
Maybe I'll pick up a 512 or 1GB CF card when I'm there.
