When is the best time to take a trip to Hawaii? By 'best,' I mean the off peak season so the airline tickets aren't as expensive? Would a September-October date be okay? How are the weather on these months?

Also,

If the wife and I plan to make a 7 day trip, how much should I expect to spend(excluding air tickets and excluding hotels)? I'm talking about food, entertaintment, etc etc. We are not in the bar scene, just touristy things. Does hawaii offer a good transportation system or would it be better to rent a car?

There's really no such thing as an "off-season" for Hawaii, but there are times when things are less crowded.

We usually go during October/November, but also make the trip occasionally in December.

If school is out for more than a few days, it'll be busy there.

It is absolutely dead here in September. I know of two restaurants that shut down for the month to do maintenance/upgrades.

I was joking Whoozy

I need to check my batteries again. Damn sarcasm meter is all kinds of broke.

It's probably a combination of the high humidity mixed with the sugar-fine beach sand...:D

The sea air definitely is hard on those jeweled D'Arsonval movements. We switched to Vaisala ultrasonic SE (sarchasm edition) metering and they don't miss a beat. ;)
