Going to Hawaii - I have some questions

I will be staying in Kailua, Oahu for a week at the end of the month (for a wedding). Here are my questions

1. Where is the best nearby surfing beach? (I am a total noob)
2. Know any good diving outfits in town?
3. What good daytrips are there?
4. Anything else to consider?

Oahu's North Shore is the place to be.

2. Know any good diving outfits in town?
The folks at Arron's Dive Shop are great. Both the North Shore and South Shore offer great diving adventures. Hanauma Bay is my favorite. (I can send you some pics I took if you wish

3. What good daytrips are there?
Drive around the island and check out all the famous beaches. Check out the Arizona Memorial. Rent a scooter and cruise around Waikiki. Your hotel should have plenty of info for touristy things to do.

4. Anything else to consider?

Yeah, if you visit the North Shore and don't make a trip to Matsumoto's Shaved Ice for the best shaved ice on the planet, I'll smack you!!!

PS. Never order a "Hawaiian" pizza in Hawaii. i.e Pineapple and Ham. The locals will think you're nuts. "What! hot pineapple on a pizza??? Are you nuts??"

Yes, you are correct. I missed the part about you being a newbie. As far as diving goes, It all depends on what time of year you go. From November to May it can be nasty, so avoid the North Shore alltogether if you are travelling that timeframe. Check out koko Crater and Turtle Canyon in the South Shore. Good novice dives with beautiful scenery. You'll love it!

By the way, unless you don't want to restrict your dives to the hotel pool, you'll need to get certified as a open water diver.

Surf in Waikiki, more people, but the waves are great for beginners.

hey what do you know... my family's going too! maui and oahu (that's the big island right?)

are people going to laugh at me if i'm a beginner at surfing and keep on falling off the board?

WAY too advanced for a beginning surfer.

the north shore. of course, there's no waves on the north shore in the summer anyway, but if by some chance there are, it's NOT the place for a beginner to be.

oahu is not the "big island" thats hawaii!

Have a good time, I'm sure you will. My cousin went to a wedding in Hawaii not too long ago and absolutely loved it.
