Going to hash out numbers with a dealer for an '06 GTO

arcenite

Lifer
Sticker is 23.9, Bluebook is 21.8. All of this stuff is new to me, how much should I offer and how much should I be willing to pay? The car has 17k miles and is in great shape...

Thanks.

If it's a manual, there's a bit of a price premium on the used market. I think you can get it for $18-20k if they really want to sell it.

$18-19 is likely fair, It's still under warranty from the factory most likely. You will be hard pressed to find any other car remotely close to it's price range that can match what the GTO has to offer overall. Is it a "GM Certified" car? If so, there's more warranty with that as well.

I love mine as a daily driver.

I don't want the guy laughing at me either... you don't think 18k is too low for a 400hp car with 17k miles?

who cares if they laugh at you, if you get it for 18.5 instead then who's laughing as you drive off when you were prepared to spend 19?

So what. Its not like he/she is your friend. That and cars are not selling well now.
That and any offer is better then none to a car sales man. This tells him you want the car. Maybe to low but he will come back.

I saw a private person selling a loaded '05 GTO with small mods, 18500 miles, priced 18000, no winter driving. Take that for whatever you will.

If they don't laugh or aren't offended; you've offered too much.

The guy wouldn't budge from 23,5. I don't know if he was testing me or what, but he's not getting business from me.

23.5 is way too much for that car. So much for the recession and bad car market.

I have seen them going for $19 near me as well.

With a little looking around and patience you will find what you seek.

If he wouldn't budge you should just leave him with your phone number and walk away. Around the end of the month when he didn't make his sales goals he'll start calling.

Look on ls1gto.com. Plenty of people selling their rides.

And 23.5 is way too much. When I wrecked my 06 in May 08, I got like $24.5K from insurance. Low miles 06...I probably wouldn't pay more than $20K for it. Depreciation kills these cars. Shop around more - you'll find other options. Also don't be afraid to look at an 05, there's only two differences from the 06: 06 gets a door lock button on the center console and a standard "Smokers convenience package" which is the ashtray & cig lighter outlet in front of the shifter.

I <3 late model GTO's - unfortunately with the horrendous traffic and constant downpours in FL, plus the long commute, it's not very practical.

NADA says clean retail is just over 20k. Clean trade-in is 15k. They have somewhere around that in the car. I'd definitely offer 18k, and get up and walk if they don't offer what you actually want to pay.

Forget Blue Book, it's worthless and dealers don't use it, except to try to fool customers into thinking they are getting a good deal. Dealers only use the Black Book, and sometimes the NADA guide.

This is my current dream car, I'd absolutely love to have one. If I ever have money to buy a car, I'm getting one of these. (In college and drive a econo box Accord)

$23500 is too high. Problem is dealers all think we can pay KBB value which is too high. I would not want to pay more than 18-19 for a car with that amount of miles. But I have seen some listed on autotrader with very low (under 7K miles) listed for under $24K .. Tell that dealer he knows where he can go.

As mentioned above, is it GM certified? When I got my Mazda MPV used the certification added an almost criminal amount of warranty to it, bringing it up in fact further than a new car has in terms of miles remaining of warranty.

Just make sure he has your number and see who says Uncle first.

There are very few of these around but if you can find another comparable and point it out to him maybe he'll see that his is overpriced and budge on it.

I can already tell you will get raped by the dealer with that attitude.

lol...no. I have seen a low mileage 06 as low as 16k last year.

No folddown rear seat killed the deal for me on that ride. I was really set on trading into one.

Who cares? The impractically small trunk for a car this size that can carry 4 adults should have more than made up for that shortcoming.

not when you need to haul a 2x4 every so often. they stretch from the trunk to the passenger seat in most fold down cars.
