No, I'm in the Portland, OR area. I figured they can't be all that different, though. If anything I'd expect the US to be easier.

Don't sweat it. My sister dropped out of school at 15, took the test a few years later just hoping to find out how hard it was (not expecting to pass). And she easily passed. No preperation whatsoever. And she's not exactly the sharpest pencil if you know what I mean.

<< Viper,

You could go without sleep for a week, drink three fifths of vodka and smoke an entire four finger lid right before sitting down to take it, and still pass.

You will have no trouble at all.

Its extremely easy. The hardest math thats on the GED is basic algebra, and basic geometry. I'm talking basic, heck I bet the avg 8th grader could pass it.

I took my GED in 1995, and breezed through it with no trouble. In fact, I had the tests done at least 20 mins before the time was up. Its incredibly easy, I would agree its at about the eighth grade level. Don't forget, alot of people drop out because they cannot handle the work. So they don't make it to hard of a test to pass. Good luck! :)

GED? BWAHAHAHAH!!! My friend took his GED and he's a brain dead drug addict. Why didn't you just stay in school? If you're so smart then highschool couldn't have been that bad. Burned out? Give me a break. Why would an employer choose you over someone who has a real high school diploma? If it comes down to it, the person with the same credentials but having a real diploma will get choosen.

I know viper will address you himself, but I'd like to as well. Go back to masturbating in the corner or whatever you were doing previously. Plenty of people have things happen in life that prevents them from finishing school. Perhaps he wans't as fortunate as you to be able to go right through.

Viper: Call the community college you graduated from and speak with someone in adult education. Tell them your situation and ask when you can test next. I can't imagine not having a high school diploma to be a problem if you've got an associates degree, but it shoudlnt take more than an hour of your time to take the test.

And why are you following me around bumping my posts?

Why didn't I get my GED? Because I didn't want to. I never attended high-school, & I liked it that way. I liked being able to say I had a college degree but I'd never been to high school. Now it could potentially be harmful NOT to have it, so I have reason to get it. Before I didn't.

Why didn't I stay in school? I was taken out of the public school system after 5th grade. I spent two years being home-schooled, & started PCC full time at 14.

So eff off.

Don't flatter yourself, i'm not following you. I'm sensing alot of hostility in you. Probably because you didn't get a real high school diploma. You'll always have that hanging over your head because that's something you can never get no matter what you do. Highschool can be hard as can be college but if you give up then that's what you get... a second chance to be second rate. Sorry.

Easy there soybomb. Why are people on this forum so quick to make excuses for everyone else? My friend with the GED wishes he had gotten a real highschool diploma... his brain is fried all to heck and even he realizes this. Good luck with the GED Viper, i'm sure you'll do great on it.

Viper, I took my GED and trust me, you already know everything you need to know to ace it.

I dropped out of school because the highschool I went to was critically overcrowded and the equivalent of a big daycare center. Dropping out, taking my GED, and going on to college (first junior college, then state) is something I do not regret one little bit.

Just get a good night's sleep and eat a good breakfast on the day you take the test. It is almost ridiculously easy!

The only way for me to get a "real" highschool diploma would have been to waste four years of my life getting drunk, chasing women, & being bored out of my mind. I would be one year out of hS at this point.

Instead, I spent two years full time at PCC, resulting in ~180 credits + an associates degree with a 3.5+ GPA (I was a slacker ), + I got to obtain a level of independance that none of my friends have. I got the opportunity to spend the last three years working instead of going to school. The result is I've have had the money and time to do things that I wanted to do (namely this). And now that I'm ready to go back I am STILL ahead of where I would have been if I'd stayed in school. I still have more than a year's head start, & I got to jerk off for three years.

I wouldn't trade it for a "real" highschool diploma any day, & most of my friends (who are 1-2 years older) wish they could have done the same thing I did.

Once you get the GED and can show the Associate Degree, the difference between the GED and HS diploma will not matter to an employer.

Many GED places will also have refresher/remedial classes.

As soon as you whip through the GED, start the chase for a full Bachelors. A BS will show more that any GED will. In your field a BS over a BA will be better.

I figure as much. An AS + BS & they probably won't give a rat's ass whether or not I even have the GED. I'm only getting it as a preventative measure so they can but checks in all the required boxes on admission forms.

I'm taking my GED this week! So ironic that this thread had to come up. Now it has me nervous. Viper i dropped for the same reason you did. Pffffft, i never even been to a prom :( BTW, i just finished my remedial prep class for the test this past sunday, its not all that easy but judging from your post and the fact your an elite member:p, The 200 word Essay is the part i know you'll kill easy. The math part is random and everything is reading comprehension. I have the test booklet too, from what it says the whole test is 7 hours long

Wrinting Skills-55minutes-55questions

Essay 45minutes-

Social Studies 85minutes-64questions

Science-95minutes-66questions

Interpreting Literature-65minutes45questions

Math-90minutes-56questions

I'll tell you next week how it goes for me...

7 hours? Damn...

I don't suppose they let you take a book? Or work straight through?

It'll knock out an entire day, I guess.

Give up? Huh?

I was in full diploma IB program and going to school was almost a complete waste of time. I made some good friends (i.e. IcemanJer and Dangermouse33), but I didn't find the classes particularly useful.

By the last few months before the exam time, I barely even went to school. I went to school just to avoid trouble with the school administration. I self studied for most of my exams and aced most of them.

I was in a similar situation Viper was in at the time, except for the fact that I "stayed" at school and waited until I graduated to get a job.

Wow, is this for real, you can actully go on w/ life basicly normally w/o high school and just get your GED?

my friend which puts a lot of effort in to school just to get A's and have a clean absentee, got angered when I mentioned this, but I may be wrong, as anyone in a drop out position will never make as much or more than one who has completed high school.
