Is a 2.1 megapixel camera good enough?

I've had my Canon S110 for a few years now, but I've been reading a little bit more about cameras tonight and looks like 5MP is the standard now. Can you even find 2.1MP cams anymore?

What do you guys think? Good enough for a regular guy taking some pictures w/ the family and locales?

if its just for the web, 2.1 would be decent... But if you plan to print anything larger than a 3x5, you'll definately want something with some more balls....

Eh...maybe..but I might would check out a Canon PowerShot S410.

MP is overrated...and totally useless...

i have a 3.1MP Powershot and 90% of my pics i will resize later anyway because they're too frikin' big.

It's just a stupid marketing thing to catch more customers.

Also...the larger your pic, the bigger a SD/CF card you need...the longer does it take to download them....etc..etc...

you're definitly fine with 2.1 MP for normal pics...you're fine with 3.1 even if you want to print posters (like letter size in nice quality)...i dont see the point in 5 MP at all

Well if your only using them on your computer, sure. Good luck printing those though, the bigger the better.

For 4x6 or even 8x10 (for hanging on a wall, a photo you would view from a distance) 2mp is pretty good. More MP is better because it gives you the ability to crop (a few inches at most) while maintaining the same quality you would get from a 2MP camera. I've even made 100cmx200cm plots from my 4MP camera and it looks pretty good.
