Going to Europe for spring break, things to see and do???

My girlfriend is studying abroad in Italy right now. For spring break Im going to fly over there (for about 10 days) to backpack Europe with her. Ill be flying into Venice on March 10th and flying out of Rome on the 21st. What should we see do? We're both 21 so let me know of some fun stuff to do. Since shes in Italy we will do a lot there, and we really want to see Spain. Where else should we go/see?
