Going to dual boot my machine w/ Linux - what Linux distro should I use?

I liked SUSE's setup - I am not sure what one I can use because on SUSE's site all the professional downloads say "evaluation" version - Anything you can recommend please tell me- I need something that will work well w/ my Asus A8V-Deluxe and 3500+ Winnie

And please consider I am a noob w/ linux
 
There's also MEPIS. No real point, IMO, of using anything but MEPIS, Ubuntu, or Kubuntu.
