Definitely learn the fastpass system, it's free too :)
If you have a SmartPhone, there are wait time apps, though not sure how well they work.

Awesome info. Our son is 7 as well, did you encounter anything that he wouldnt meet height requirements for? Also, did you check out any of the star wars stuff?

He wasn't tall enough to ride alone in the racetrack ride (don't remember the actual name). I think you had to be 54" and he was a couple short. He could still drive, but had to have an adult in the car with him. That was the only one we saw that he was too short for.

We didn't do the Jedi school but did ride the Star Tours. That was pretty intense - but fun. Our 7 yr-old wouldn't go on the Tower of Terror but loved all the roller coasters.

Holy hell hot. Anyway, LIVE AND BREATH the touring plans.

http://touringplans.com/

And I'd even get their book. Yes, it's 500+ pages but it's worth it and you obviously don't have to read it all. Get a membership to the site I just mentioned ($10/year or something) and it has estimated crowd levels on each day for each park. USE THEM. It will say which park on which date has the smallest crowds.

Also, get the fast pass tickets like your life depends on them. They can make a huge difference and absolutely own. You can get a new one about every 90 minutes, so you should, by the end of the day, have enough for 2-3 rides stacked so that you can run back and forth and avoid the lines.

I'm dead Fing serious about the fast pass, your life depends on it. And the touring plan site, even if you don't get the book. I went earlier this year and it owns.

You could only get fast passes for one ride - had to use them up before you could get ones for another ride.
Absolutely UNTRUE. I was there in April and stacked them. I'd take everyone in my party's tickets (7 or something) and go grab 7 at a time.

The thing is if you grab your first fast pass at, say, 9:30 am it will say come back at, perhaps, 10:30 or later for the ride. Now, put that same ticket in for right away it will spit back a receipt telling you when you qualify for another fast pass (this is NOT the same time as on the actual fast pass ticket, generally after, but it could be before). Then, go back to another fast pass machine at that time and you can stack them.

Also, and this is of the utmost importance, when you get a fast pass, it will say come back between, say 11:30 am and 12:30 PM. You must understand that it's VERY rare for an agent to deny your ticket as long as you're there after the 11:30. By this, I mean come back at 2, or 4, or 6. They don't care. This is why the touring plans book is so excellent, it tells you all this.

If you're not getting as many fast passes as you can you're doing it wrong, and do not think you need to come during the window, as long as you're there after it begins.

I know the above may sound confusing to somebody unaccustomed to FPs, but it's not, you'll get the hang of it :) We were there several days and I used the majority of fast passes after the "end time" of that pass and never got a single look.

Bring a backpack full of frozen water. Food and drink prices are not actually that terrible there, but they can rack up. Also, it's worth reserving a spot at a restaurant shortly after you get there, or even call on the phone (number is on the park color maps that you get for free near the doors). If you wait until supper you will be having a hard time getting a spot.

Sorry to hijack the thread but my Disney summary is this:

1) Don't go during the summer if you can avoid it
2) Don't go when kids are out of school if you can avoid it
3) Go to a specific park when Touring Plans website tells you do. Never question this site, don't presume to know better, bow, say thank you sir, and don't look it in the eye.
4) Get fast passes whenever you can. When the day starts, get one and then swipe your ticket immediately again to find out when it will let you get another one. Then show up at that time and get it (although it may be a different ride, of course--the systems are all integrated), and swipe again to find out when you're able to get yet another.
5) Even as an adult if you've not seen the lights show at Magic Kingdom it really is impressive--and not just for the fireworks, they do some crazy sh*t with that castle. When you watch the show, stand on mainstreet at the corner--don't bother going into the circle area (which is closer to the castle). Two reasons: 1) You get a good view at the end of main street, 2) When the show is over you have a huge head-start on the traffic jam of people as you try and get back onto the monorail.
6) Space Mountain is legend and by that I mean it's old as sh*t. It's an interesting ride but if you have any back pain or anything forget it, it's a very rough ride. Far better and much pimper is Rock N' Rollercoaster.
7) Lilo and stitch ride is lame, skip it. This is of course all in the touring plans website and tells you all you need to know :) Including to skip this one.

They may have changed something from when I went last year but at that time you could actually have two fast passes at once. You just have to time it right.

Do the fast passes

And if there is any place in particular you wanted to eat (even in Epcott) make reservations now! I am going there for 2 days on my honeymoon in September, and we made our reservations about 2 months ago. Some of the restaurants had no openings and other ones we had to eat at non-peak times.

And if you go to Animal Kingdom, do the Safari Ride.

The princess dinner at Magic Kingdom I'm told you have to make it exactly 6 months in advance. They don't take reservations further out than that and at times they can literally sell all of those out within a minute or so of the opening. The touring plan book spends a full page explaining exactly how to call the split second 6 months out begins, including calibrating your time to the atomic clock (I am not kidding).

Well, we tried it twice and both times it wouldnt' let us get another one. I guess our timing wasn't right.

You can only have one set of Fass Pass at a time; until a certain time which the ticket will state. So you have have gotten two at a time, but it wasn't right after getting the first one. There's a duration before you can get the second one.

•There's a limit to the number of FASTPASS tickets you may have at one time. On your ticket will be printed the time at which you can get your next one. Disney's FASTPASS Service machines won't issue another ticket until the time stated on your current one.

I actually work next door to the courier journal building on Broadway.

Federal Building?
Or at a building to the East (I remember when they imploded the old Hotel at 4th. & Broadway, don't know what they built in it's place!)

I only ever saw one time on the fastpass ticket--the time I can go _back to that particular ride_. However, for some high-popularity rides if you get a ticket at 11:00 am it may say you cannot even come back until 5:30 PM or something, but if you run your park ticket through again it will spit out a reject receipt saying come back at, say, 12:30-1:00 (and you'd probably use it at some other ride).

The whole "experience" of eating in the castle at MK is overrated. We did that one year since it was my birthday and we had nothing better to spend money on at the time. I think my niece would prefer the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique.

If you don't make reservations for the sit-down places, there's a chance of getting a table. I've done it a couple times.

yup, this was how i did it at disneyland myself..... fastpass whore it all out. i have some friends who are serious nazis about how you go about disneyland. i don't even care myself, just as long as im not getting screwed by waits or sitting around. we managed both the original disneyland and CA adventures in 1 day. whew. i probably died from exhaustion.

As for Florida, good luck. I haven't done the summer thing, but from my relatives who live close by, they would avoid it. IF you can handle the heat, I say best of luck because I know I can't.

I went to Disney World a month ago. I just found an unused Fast Pass in my wallet.

It says "Return anytime between 6:20pm and 7:20pm". There is always an hour time range when you can come back to ride the ride.

On the bottom, it says in small print "Another FASTPASS ticket will be available after 4:10pm". Pay attention to when you can get another ticket. You can often get a second fast pass before your first one is eligible for use.

Pretty much all has been said - use the heck out of the fast passes.

1) As others said you don't have to use them during the actual return time, they can be used any time after that on the same business day.

2) You can have a cajillion fast passes at a time. Just grab some more as soon as you can, it will say on the ticket like Leros said.

I've only done Disneyland, not Disneyworld. I would always hold everybody's tickets and just run around grabbing fast passes while they sat in the shade and sipped a pop or water. An order of fries will usually fill 3-4 peoples stomachs for a few hours until you can make it out of the park to a cheaper eatery.

Have fun!

Yeah, we ran into that the steakhouse in Canada at Epcott had no reservations. I hear that you have to make that one six months in advance, but that's ok. Because, as much as I love steak, I'd rather eat food I don't eat frequently there.

The guy at the french restaurant literally laughed at us when we asked how long the wait was and if we could make a reservation. :(

Le Cellier. Great place. My friend waited (served) there.

With the fast passes, is there still a line, just shorter like 15 minutes? Or do you go by everyone and only wait a minute or two?
