i always like to bring a spare video card or two (1 PCI, 1 AGP), an old CD-ROM in case one of those is pooped out, mouse, keyboard. and of course the apps & patches & updates. of course, everything that has been mentioned too.

Can of compressed air. I'm willing to bet his PC is full of dust.

Speaking of which..I opened up my old Celly 500 machine the other day...oh..my...God..more dust than you could shake a stick at. The modem card was covered in about a 1/4" thick layer of dust. The CPU heatsink was almost completely clogged with dust. Looked like a dust storm when I blew the thing out with compressed air on my back porch..

At work we replaced a bunch of P2s (250-400mhz) with P4s and the HDs had to be wiped or removed. So we had about 100 machines to go through, nasty stuff. pic1 pic2.

Think thats bad! Check this out, it's my mom's computer:

Yeah, I recently did a drive install on the exact same case. Unopened in at least 4 years, looked even worse than that.

The area under the front bevel just gets ridiculous on those cases.
