I'm not sure if any of you will have an answer for me, but I don't know where else to ask. The lady I talked to when I called my insurer (Progressive) was an idiot.
Here's my question: I currently reside in Lansing, MI. I have Michigan plates on my car, and a Michigan drivers license. I am moving back to MI when I graduate (this is my last year).
I am going to Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL to finish up my BS in CS.
Since I'm only going to be in FL while I'm in school, for less than a year, I would like to keep my Michigan plates and License (in order to save time & money and also to remain a resident here).
Progressive's terms state that I must notify them when my address changes or when my "principle place of garaging" changes. The person I spoke with on the phone told me that I will definitely have to cancel my insurance, get new insurance, plates and a license if I'm going to be in FL for any length of time, because if I get in an accident and they find out I'm living down there, they can refuse to pay.
Sooooo, do you guys see any way out of this? I have a permanent address up here with my friends, and my address at school is NOT going to be a permanent address anyway. In previous years, I never had to change my drivers license, but I never took a car with me either
Thanks.
