I'm a college student and going to California for spring break with some friends. We'll be staying in Venice beach right off the beach.

So far we've got universal studios and Hollywood to visit and one of the piers. Don't recall off hand which one. We'll probably spend a day or two at the beach as well.

Looking for other suggestions or ideas. We've pretty well ruled out Disneyland. What is there as far as nightlife, both 21 and 18+. Most of us are 21+ but not everyone. Also what is there to do during the day.

Thanks in advance.

My pick was south padre but Venice beach won out. Now we're looking at some of the things to do out there. Besides I haven't been there since I was 5.

Anyways. Suggestions. I've already been recommended Hollywood at night, pch, and orange county. What else should we look at?

all my favorite southern california activities can be summed up with: food, drugs, sun

definitely wouldnt have been my first choice. san diego seems like theyd get more of a spring break crowd.

Being that you're a college student, I highly recommend that you NOT go to Orange County. You WILL be bored.

Downtown LA has some good restaurants and bars. Walk Melrose Ave (although it feels a bit like Venice Beach).

How long are you here for? My best suggestion is: drive to Vegas for a night or two. It's about 3.5hrs away by car and totally worth the experience.

When you go to Universal studios, spend the extra money for the "A" ticket. Every attraction has two gates, one for the unwashed masses, and the "A" gate. You skip to the front of every line, you get on the ride while a very polite (to you) attendant makes the second class citizens step back. It's pretty awesome.

So what happens when everyone pays extra for the upgrade?

Universal Studios is the weakest of all the theme parks in SoCal. There really isn't much to do there. I'd rather go to Six Flags, Knott's, or Disneyland. All of those are infinitely better. Don't know why you'd rule out Disneyland since it really still the best theme park out there.

Wish you woulda posted here first. Don't know what month you're going, but Feb and March are the worst beach months out of the year. It's the coldest and windiest, the water is frigid, and no one is generally there. Also, venice beach is terrible for anyone not strung out on smack. Beaches in north LA county (malibu north, with the exception of zuma) are generally more rocky, the ones south (redondo, hermosa, manhattan, el segundo) are nice and sandy. Go there if you can.

South orange county or San Diego would be your best bet. Hell, even newport or Huntington.

Legoland. THE SoCal destination.

/end thread.

Only if you're 8 years old or younger...

Are you being serious??

Universal is fine if that's what you want. Disney is better, but it's nowhere near as good as Orlando; not even close. I'd even do Magic Mountain (Six Flags) if you're willing to put in a whole day. Universal is close, and you probably don't need to burn an entire day at the park.

Understand that Hollywood is going to get old after about an hour. Don't go in with big expectations.

If you've got chicks in the group, they might be interested in Rodeo Drive.

The beach will be fine, but the water is freezing and murky; LA isn't Florida or Hawaii or even San Diego.

Venice is big for weirdos and pot. You only really need to see it once.
