Hey guys

I kept hearing about GTXs, GTS, GTs, HD2000 and HD3000, SLI, Quad-Fire...

I CAN'T HELP MYSELF -- I got the upgrade bug.

So, I'm selling my crossfire setup (links in sig!) but I'm not sure what to buy.

I was leaning towards an 8800GT but then realized that it wouldn't be much fun to go from 2x to 1x and have the same performance (on most games...).

So I was thinking 8800GTX...or maybe ultra if I can find a cheap one.
What do you guys think?

Here are some relevant specs:
-e6600 @ 3 Ghz
-P5WDH
-2GB ram @ 800mhz

I game @ 1680x1050 and @ least 4xAA and always 16xAF. Play all the latest games too.

I think that if availability is not an issue, then 128 SP 8800GTS is the card to go for if you can wait it out till Dec. 4 IIRC.

Get the EVGA 8800GT now and use the Step Up program if you feel that you need more fps.

GTX or Ultra would be poor choices at this point. 8800 GT is a no brainer there.

The rumor mill is buzzing about G92 GTS. Your purchase date falls on the supposed launch date. Hard or soft launch, we'll see. Price, we'll see. Performance, we'll see. Ask the same question once the variable(s) are revealed.

Until then, John's recommendation stands as the most logical..

it's hard to NOT go with 8800gt unless the new gts ends up being much better than most people suppose. if it has 10% more perf but costs 350 vs the (hopefully by then) 250 of 8800gt then that seems to be a no-brainer.

i have a evga superclocked 8800 gtx, and i have to say i am VERY happy with it, but i would have to agree that if u cant wait, that a 8800 gt is your best bet, they are great cards, the clock speed on a 8800 gt is actually slightly faster than the clock speed on my "superclocked" gtx. so i agree, its a no brainer

I'll try to snatch new 8800GTS if it actually will be available on Monday and if the prices won't be outrageously high. Several reasons, one it should be faster than 8800GT, I don't upgrade often so I want some headroom, and two, for dual slot exhaust.

good call on dual slot, forgot about that  however, they bumped release back to "mid dec" iirc.

I don't think that's a fact yet. The rumor that claimed 8800GTS was to be delayed until mid December was specifically talking about G80 112sp card, and we know that just isn't true. I'm still hopeful for December 3rd release.

well, considering that it appears to be just an 8800gt with the extra 16sp's unlocked and a mild oc, prepare to wait for availability to catch up to demand :(
