well it looks like i missed the boat on the canon a40 from officemax... i'm looking for a good camera, around 300 bucks, preferably canon or nikon. right now i'm looking at the coolpix 775 and the a40 from canon, they seems to be the best for the price.... anyone?

I have the Canon Powershot S330 and love it. Same goes for my friend with the S330, my other friend with the S200, my other friend with the S110, my other friend with the S100, my sister with the S110, and my friend's sister with the S110. See the trend here? 😉 Personally I see no use for a camera with 98324798327432.0 megapixels that take 64 mb/pic for raw images or whatever because frankly I don't take shots at a very high resolution. I just use my camera to post pics on my website and what not, nothing serious. You can't beat the size of the Elphs... good quality too. I have no complaints.

how about buying mine in the fs/t forum.

its a fuji mx-2900 w/ 32 mb smart media card and a lexar usb smart media reader.

comes with carrying case, rechargable battery, and a/c cord/charger.

$250.00 shipped 🙂

Camera under $300? Canon A40, hands down. I LOVE mine and have had great success with it. The 775 is a great choice as well, but the software is sub-par from what I've read, and it's also a discontinued model. The only thing I like about the 775 is the size and macro shot quality. The Canon A40 cleans its clock in every other aspect, IMO. I don't like the new blue/silver CoolPix models...

not necessarly under 300... just around that price, looks like the a40 is winning so far. anyone else?

A40. definitely. great size (not too small, fits well in hand), great photos! the best tip i can offer is to buy some nice high quality NiMH batteries and charger and you will not be disappointed. The only downside is when transferring pics you run off the battery as there's no AC adapter or does not run off the USB port. but its got all the great features that camera should have (iso exp setting, opt zoom, focus, etc).

HAVE FUN! 😀

^ Agreed- you WILL need some NiMH batteries and a charger, not to mention a larger memory card. But keep in mind this goes for 9 out of 10 digital cameras. I picked up a MAHA MH-C204F charger and either Gold Peak (GP) 1800mAH rechargable NiMH AA batteries off eBay as a package for like, 45 bucks. A Viking Components 128MB CompactFlash card will run you another $45 on eBay. I also got the Canon case for that model, which is REALLY cool. As with nearly any digital camera, be prepared to spend close to $100 more on accessories to make the thing halfway usable.

yea i kinda figured that, 8megs isn't a whole lot of pictures 😉 looks like everyone agrees on the a40, wheres the best place to buy? bestbuy.com has it for 299.99 and free shipping..

edit: does the a40 have a movie mode on it?

The Canon PowerShot A40 is without a doubt the winner.

You can still buy it today for $249 with FREE 128MB CF at OfficeMax.

With the $50 savings buy some nice rechargeable batteries hmmn 4 1800 mAH Powerex AA's, MAHA C204F 3 hour quick charger and free battery holders for $36.97 plus s&h -or- you could buy from one of SunnBattery.com's eBay auctions (ptron1), I bought this and have been VERY HAPPY with my purchase. For only $3 more than Thomas-Distributing you're getting 4 more 1800 mAH batteries plus a car adapter instead of battery holders.

Whatever you do definitely buy the Canon A40 today since the FREE 128MB CF ad expires today I think and the $50 off $250 coupon expires 8/4!

the cannon A40 looks good.

although i'm a happy nikon 775 user. no complaints about it all except that nikon service sucks.

What does the A40 have that makes it stand out so much? And did I just read that you can't use a USB cable to transfer pics??

I'm in the market for a digital cam and I've heard nothing but raves about the A40, I want one but I wanna know what it has to offer 😀

I have considered the other two leaders in the $300 digicam arena the Fuji Finepix 2600 and Nikon Coolpix 775. At one point I bought the Fuji 2600 for $201 from Staples but returned it after I found the Canon A40. I should have sold it here for $250 shipped or sold it on eBay but what can I tell ya I'm an idiot. I like the 2600's size but don't like that it takes SM instead of CF and other reasons.

You can and I have connected the Canon A40 directly to my PC via USB cable to d/l pictures, I actually prefer that over using a card reader. Yes it uses the batteries but that's why I have rechargeable batteries.

The best Hot Deal on the Canon PowerShot A40 expires TODAY!

You'd be retarted if you didn't buy the Canon A40 today I'm tellin ya it's a frikkin' amazing price. First of all you're saving $50, second of all you're getting 128MB CF and if you have it shipped it's free shipping.

I'm going with a friend to buy him one today but we're going to OfficeMax B&M with the $50 off $250 OfficeMax.com coupon (just do a screen print with the URL at the bottom) because you get instant gratification.

Since I'm leaving and won't be back on AT until tomorrow (after the Canon A40 deal expires) if you have any questions about the deal please read this ENTIRE thread then post your question(s), almost all the Hot Deals issues have been addressed in that thread.

Good luck and enjoy your new digicam!

i need to get a good digicam

Yes, I know the FREE 128MB CF card deal is dead and the $50 off $250 coupon should have expired yesterday but you had PLENTY of opportunities to get in on this deal.

You snooze, you lose.

i love my nikon coolpix 775. i've had it for more than a year know. got it when it came out and still works great. one of my greatest purchases ever. so many pictures and memories it saves. beats film cameras big time in # of pics i can take. plus the rechargeable battery is a plus. you can get an extra one at compusa for like $20. the only problem i had was that the 8mb CF card wasn't enough so i got a 128mb card for $50. not bad at all. gotta love it.
