Going to be in Boston for the first time ever the week of June 14 - 18. I fly in on the 13th so it is possible I'll be in Boston if/when the Celtics win the championship, so that could get interesting. I need some advice on great places to eat while I'm there! Last time I posted a thread like this I was going to Pittsburgh and got some GREAT advice on where to eat (primanti brothers, church brew works, etc)

Where are the absolute must-eat places in Boston? The only place I know for sure I'm going to check out is Sam La Grassa's http://www.samlagrassas.com/ and maybe Mike's City Diner and that's just because I've seen them on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives

I'll be staying at the Courtyard Boston Tremont hotel on Tremont street, so places within walking distance would be preferred. I'd be up for an ATOT meet there any night from the 13th to the 17th as well. Thanks in advance!

haha, JUST NOW saw this! http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2080536

I went to Cheers when I was there. Not great food, but fun. It is right across from the park.

Yeah, let's do a meet up. I live right in the North End so I could probably host it. Actually, let's do a meet up at the Corner Cafe in Boston on the 15th of June. Anyone interested?

I disagree. Go to the Park Plaza location and ask for Mike or Winston at the bar.

Sorry, but Legal Seafood is a tourist trap. They have horrible overpriced seafood. I should not have to ask for anyone specific to get good food.

I love their subway. This is how it works:

Train arrives, doors open.
People rush off, people rush on in a 10 second period.
Doors close.
Ten minutes pass.
Train begins to move.
Train stops 50 yards short of next station.
Ten minutes pass.
Train at station finally leaves, your train arrives at the station.
REPEAT.

TWENTY MINUTES PER STATION.

I went to a Yanks/Sox game at Fenway. At one point when the train stopped and they told us that the train was randomly changing to another type of train, I yelled out, "WHAT THE F___ IS WRONG WITH THIS STATE?!" and noticed that another person had also yelled out. Looked through the crowd, guy with a yankees cap on.

Your subway has traffic, in a straight line, because you trains don't move. I figured at first it was because you stay at a station until you fill the train, to save energy. But then I realized if that was the case, they'd have fewer trains running, and they'd keep the doors open for longer than 10 seconds while sitting at the station for 10 minutes.

Not good food, good drinks! :) they are bar tenders!

And I like the food there. I've lived in Boston for 3+ years, and I go there all the time.

Yes, there are better places down by the harbor that are much cheaper. But Legal is consistent. And their $1 oysters are awesome :)

You're talking about the green line. I agree. The green line sucks. There's even T-shirts around Boston that say that :)

However, the other, more modern "subway lines" (red, orange, blue) are much faster and much more like other cities.

You can't beat the amount of public transportation in this city, hands down.

You went during a red sox game. That was your problem. The green line was never meant to handle all the traffic it takes....it sucks. Yes, it it does.

I posted in that thread, I plan to but you never know what may happen. It's 1.4 miles from my hotel, should I walk it or cab it?

Hate to quote myself, but should I just get a CharlieCard from the MBTA? If so, how much $ would you recommend I put on it for a 5 day stay? does any train/bus go to/from the airport?

Last time I went to Chicago I just bought a card for $12 that gave me unlimited rides on all mass transit for 72 hours after the first time i scanned the card for a ride but I don't see anything like that on the MBTA.com website.

Well....maybe that is the problem. I lived in Boston/Cambridge for 6 years. I have seen Legal Seafood turn into a mecca of seafood crap.

As for drinks, that is probably where we differ. I prefer drinks at local non chain places.

Not to hijack your thread OP but I'll be in Boston on the 18th-22nd for some shows.

Are there any cool record shops with good vinyl selections?

Newbury Comics is a good chain that is popular in MA.

They also have this place in Cambridge on MASS AVE, but the name escapes me at the moment.
