Going to a semi-formal. WHat are semi-formal clothes?

I think Khaki's are too casual. I say wear some regular slacks with a shirt and tie. A suit would be best, but what do I know about dances these days...?

Seems to be a variety of opinions. Typical answer would be to err on the overdress side. Have a coat/tie, I guess, and you can take them off if the environment is more casual.

I typically wore khakis and a collared shirt to our semi-formals. Occasionally a tie. Only wore suits to formals.

The only semi formal i've ever been to all the guys wore either suits or nice dress pants w/ shirt and tie. I asked if khakis and like..a nice shirt/sweater would do and one of the guys told me it was fine..but it would kinda stand out b/c everyone else would be wearing suits.

So that night my boyfriend ended up wearing nice dress pants w/ a shirt and tie.

Pics are in my sig.

high school dance? you can get away with shirt, tie and dress pants. but most guys show up in suits.

for girls... at semi formals i got away with wearing a knee length dress.

formals at my high school was always guys in tux, girls in gowns.

Khakis are usually considered business casual.

Semi-Formal is slacks (usu. dark), tie, and coat. A suit and tie is preferred.

tux = formal

Yep, that's how I've always understood it. But if you get there and most people aren't wearing a suit, and that makes you uncomfortable, you can always take the jacket/tie off.
