go to hallmark, go to the birthday section and they should have an area organized by age. buy a 'happy 7th birthday!' card, put a nice, brief message in there and sign it. put said $50 bill (or a check will also work fine) into the card and take that to the party. happy birthday!

Yeah, that's my last resort gift, if nothing else pans out.

KT

NO. I'll guarantee that the parents will buy her something less than 50 bucks, or clothes or something, and not to mention that it is tacky as hell.

wow. ive never spent less than a couple hundred on any of my kids. thats pretty tough too sometimes, with twins that have their bday close to xmas.

but i agree on the gift card thing. they like that way more when they are teens, at 7 they wanna open toys or cute clothes (girls at least)

get her some kind of activity set. i got my girls things like the air brush tattoo machine, the bedazzler or a bead making kit. they love making their own accessories at that age, and helping out with their creativity is always a plus. my 13 yr old got a kit to tie die shirts for her bday last week and loves it. she and her friends messed with that sucker for hours. she also has a plan to get some more dye and white shirts over this weekend to do more. it also makes it easier to choose stuff for kids you know nothing about

That airbrush tattoo thing sounds awesome! Her Dad (my buddy) has a tonne of tattoos, so he would love it! I'm not sure about his wife though...

KT

i have tattoos also, my kids tried to recreate them on their arms lol. all my kids used that sucker till it broke. i fixed it and they used it all the time after that too. but if you do get one, make sure to include a pack of replacement "pens" or it too. they go too quick.

Where can you buy these things?

Haha, yeah, I'm sure the parents would love for me to buy her something that forces them to pay out money on a monthly basis.

I agree with this. My daughter age 6 loves anything that's creativity oriented. Anything with stickers, sparkles, beads, any of that kind of stuff, she loves it.

A kids camera is not a bad idea either. I gave my daughter my old 2 mp camera and she uses it all the time, and it's not even disney or barbie, it's just a plain old digital camera.

Another thing I got my daughter was some binoculars last xmas. I wasn't sure how receptive she would be to something like that, but it turned out to be her favorite xmas present.

Good information, thank you. Binoculars would seem like an unusal gift, but I guess you never know with kids. :p

binoculars can be used during the daytime to look at animals or whatever but can also be used at night to stargaze. although you're gonna pay way more than $50 for a decent pair of binocs.

Why is it you will not buy it for your daughter?

KT

I'm trying my best to steer her away from bubblegum pop culture early in life, hoping to avoid having to listen to boy bands and the like when she's older.

It doesn't help that her grandma took her to see Disney's High School Musical On Ice last weekend. :D

My daughter enjoys some of things others have mentioned, crafty things like beads and such to make bracelets and necklaces, stickers, coloring books, paint sets, etc. She likes sparkly make-up stuff, like lip gloss, fingernail polish, and glitter stuff that goes in her hair. She also carries around a notebook that she likes to write stories and draw pictures in.

I could go on if you need any more ideas...

Yeah, that's what I thought at the time too, but I just grabbed them on a lark as I was passing through the store. They were only $10.00 and I know she liked mine on the couple of occasions I had them out, so I thought what the hell. She loved them and took the binoculars with her wherever she went, and even now a year later she still takes them with her whenever we go anywhere.

hopefully you aren't turning her away from the bubblegum for 'skoal'. Bubblegum is really what a young girl should be about. She can be smart at the same time doing so.

Hanna Montana tickets were going for $4000 here.
