The local area connection only shows a few 100k being transfered over the course of a few hours but I know for a fact that it is more like a few 100megs of transfers..

Is there any way to get XP to show how much is going through the router as well much like it would show me if I had the DSL modem connected directly to my pc?

on task manager just click the networking tab. Then go to options, and click on show cumulative data. Then click on view->select columns, and select bytes sent and bytes received.
That will show you how much is going in and out of that one computer. I don't know of any way to see how much data is going through the router total though.
