Is there a layer of glass or something on top of the solar panels to protect them? Like, say for example one of your disgruntled neighbors "accidentally" throws a rock at the panels...

While this is ATOT, I typcially don't keep disgruntled neighbors ;) Besides, they would be trespassing pretty far to get close enough to do that. If thet get past Clint and Nikita (our K9s) more power to em ;)

Seriously, is there anything protecting the panels if something were to accidentally fall on them?

I dont think they get much hail in Cali...what else is going to fall on them...a plane?

On another note, its amazing how California has such increadible subsidies for solar, and such huge penalties for coal/nuclear that buying solar panels could actually be considered to be an economically soun descision. In reality solar panels produce power at 10 times what a coal or nuke plant would, but if you ban all nuke plants, and impose hundreds of laws on coal, and stop natural gas terminals then the prices start going threw the roof.
