I have GT SLI and I am thoroughly impressed with it. I say go for it. If you want your games to look better now, then buy for now. I've never been one of those that will "wait on the next thing" because you can garuantee that A. the next thing will be expensive as hell and B. once the next thing comes out, the value of your current stuff will decrease even more.

This is great advice. Also, if you buy eVGA, you can upgrade in their buy-up program. I'm not sure if it will include the next generation of cards, but you can buy now, and have 90 days to determine if you want to buy up through them. Something to consider...

I too have the 7800gt in an sli setup and to tell you the truth i went from an ati 850xt pe to this setup and it made the world of difference. Now are you buying to have the best power available for bragging rights or to be able to play the current and near future games with max eye candy on? If your answer is the best power available then the 2 gtx 512 sli will be your answer with a price tag of $1200 usd or something like that.
If you want to save some money and be able to play EVERY SINGLE GAME AVAILABLE TODAY with max settings, then get the 7800 gt on sli setup and enjoy the show.

Do not get the single 7800gtx 512 instead of the 7800gt's in sli, look at this article. As soon as you start to increase the eye candy the 7800gtx 512 falls behind the 2 gt7800 in sli.

good luck

A single 512MB GTX was never really a good buy in my opinion. It's both slower and more expensive (if you can even find one) than a pair of GTs. And the benchmarks you generally see comparing the two are for the reference speed GTs; some cards like the EVGA 516s have significant stock overclocks while costing about the same as the reference models.

I actually have some gripes about SLI and want to switch to a single R580 or G71 once those cards come out, but it will work great for most at people.

Well, this isn't completely true. COD2 in DX9 mode still kills my machine in some areas even at 1280x960. :p Although every other game works great.

I have 7800GT SLI setup so if you want to know how any game performs just ask me :p .

COD2 on my machine at 1280x1024 runs fine with all settings MAX. Turn on AA and the framerates go down to ~30-40s but still berable. But theres nothing a little OCing might do ;)

I dunno... my setup ran COD2 @ 1280x1024 (or 1024x960 whatever it was) MAX settings and 4xAA/16xAF with a minimum framrate of around 40fps. FEAR at 1280x1024 MAX settings, soft shadows, max AI, etc... 4x/16x AA/AF with a minimum framrate of 42fps according to the in game test <--- pretty effin good.

Of course my cards are running 500/1150, I dunno if you guys were overclocking

do any of you guys have dual monitors with your sli setups? I'm asking this because right now i can use two monitors with my single 7800gt, but would hate to loose the 2nd monitor with the addition of another 7800gt.

I think I read somewhere that dual monitors didnt work with SLI. Not sure though. ANyone else with a more definitive answer?

Dual monitors doesn't work with SLI. You can have 2 monitors and game on one of them and it will just disable the second monitor when it's using SLI.

(i think)
