See my post above. I work for NCL. Each ship is different but the rules are the same.

I see it states Bermuda in your profile. We're cruising to Bermuda out of NY on NCL's Dawn in Oct... will you be on that ship? 😀

I was on that ship a couple of months ago, probably the same itinerary as you. Miami, Freeport, Nassau, GSC? We had no problems with vodka in water bottles in the carry-on and unopened rum in a checked bag. The bag they had a problem with was our scuba gear, we nearly didn't get it delivered to our room in time for our dives. We got the bag with the booze in it right away though! We brought juices and sodas in our checked bag for mixers too.

Call the cruise line and ask for concierge for your ship. Tell them what you would like in the room when you board and pay about the same price for a bottle as you would on land.

Last cruise on Norwegian Spirit I had a liter of Glenlivet in my room when I boarded for $40.

We did the water bottle trick. Clear Rum and Vodka in water bottles in our suitcases.

We never bought the soft drink card. I'd just make mixers with orange juice or fruit punch and drink all day. I'd buy a beer every now and then.

Now when they had the captains dinner with the hour of free booze... it was like college all over again... I just sat at the bar and chugged as many beers as I could for an hour.

Nothing says "READY, SET, GO!" like an open bar.

I found the trick was to get a seat at the bar.

We're headed out on a cruise in February and splurged for a balcony room. The other 3 have all been interior rooms, which were awesome for sleeping late.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but we're headed out on Saturday for our cruise. Seems there has been a lot of "chatter" on cruise critic that Carnival is getting more strict with booze smugglers. We're headed out of New Orleans on the Triumph for 7 days. Anyone cruised lately and gotten booze snuck in?

We're headed out of New Orleans on the Triumph for 7 days. Anyone cruised lately and gotten booze snuck in?

I guess I'll update my thread then since you bumped it. We smuggled the booze in fine with Rum Runners. Highly recommended. We drank a shit ton on the trip.

I have been on a Royal Caribbean (2006, left from Miami) and a Norwegian cruise (2008, left from New Orleans).
Both times, I stored a large vodka bottle in my CHECKED luggage bag.

Both times, it arrived in my stateroom, intact.
Both times we drank for free and had a blast! 🙂

BTW, it's not in their interest to ban you from the ship.
They want all the money they can get from you.
Taking your alcohol and making you pay $9 per drink makes much more sense.

I was on the Norwegian Star for 5 months. Packing your own liquor from home was fairly painless for the people who came to visit me onboard. Porting out of Seattle, all bags were checked for explosives via BoomPooch and all carry-ons were X-Rayed by the ever-attentive Ghurka security forces. There were no x-rays of checked baggage.

I'm going on a 4 night Bahamas cruise Sept 7. We're flying down to Miami the night before (a Sunday). I've been on one cruise before and the alcohol prices are ridiculous. Is there any way I can get alcohol on board so I can keep my cruise on the cheaper side? I'm sure someone knows some sneaky ideas or has some experience.

if you do have to order beer on the ship, just order Froster in the can..they charge the same price and you get almost twice the amount.

I think the confusion comes from the fact that you aren't supposed to buy liquor on the islands and smuggle it back onto the ship. You can however bring liquor with you in your luggage before you depart. I brought a large bottle of vodka and a small bottle of scotch in my luggage on my last cruise (Carnival). My wife brought a large bottle of rum. No problems. I know couples that have brought cases of beer as well.
