Going on a cruise in two weeks

I'm going on a 4 night Bahamas cruise Sept 7. We're flying down to Miami the night before (a Sunday). I've been on one cruise before and the alcohol prices are ridiculous. Is there any way I can get alcohol on board so I can keep my cruise on the cheaper side? I'm sure someone knows some sneaky ideas or has some experience.

Thanks

Pack it in your suitcase? Worst case they tag your bag and confiscate the liquor until you return to port. I have heard it happens, but in well over 20 cruises between myself and my parents, not once have they tagged our bag. I do hear rumor that some lines are stricter than others, so if you are with Carnival you might just be out of luck.

So people just can't have a good time w/o getting drunk. Well, at least you won't be DUI on a cruise ship.

This or just pack it in your suitcase. First cruise, I was paranoid and did what kstu said (minus the food coloring of course). They didn't check jack squat. Second cruise, I just packed the bottles in my luggage.

Because you're not allowed to bring it on the ship, they want you to purchase theirs. They make a killing off drinks because when people are on vacation they drink more. Some lines are incredibly strict and will actually send you home, no refund.

This is what my sister did. Seriously clean that bottle out 20-30 times though, my sister said it still tasted like mouthwash.

Clean it with orange cleaner once.

I guess it depends on the cruise line. I went on a cruise with my parents a few years ago and one of the stops was in Puerto Rico and we picked up like eight 750ml bottles and brought them on the ship. Didn?t try to hide them or anything they were just in the paper\plastic bags the shops gave us. Hell 2 of the bags had Bacardi plastered all over them.

From what I remember you were fine to drink it in your room but you couldn?t just take a bottle to dinner\bar or out on the deck and whatnot.

But maybe that?s changed I think the cruise was back in 2000 and maybe security is tighter.

I think I'm going to have to call BS on that...

Maybe if it was one of those group\conference trips that was booked by AA.

I can have lots of fun while sober. I can have lots of fun drinking. But if I'm gonna take a fucking vacation, it's time to get tipsy.

Everyone's feelings are different as to why or even how but if you must know...

Yes we don't allow alcohol. If you want to bring a sixpack or two of beer that's OK. Wine and/or hard liquor no. ALL checked baggage is radiographed and suspicious items result in the bag being withheld. The guest is notified to report to a room (we call ours the naughty room) on deck 12 for explanation. You are kindly asked to open your bag and pull out the contents and explain why you have a bottle of bubbly in a sock, etc. It's actually quite funny.

Guests may have their wine if they wish to pay a $15 corkage fee. That is added to their folio and they can have their wine served in any restaurant, etc.

Hard liquor is kept until the last night of the cruise (after 2100 SHIP TIME) which it can be retrieved. This also applies to any alcohol purchased on shore or in the Gallery shops.

Putting alcohol in listerine bottles is old as the hills. It will work with a small bottle. A suitcase full of a case of listerine bottles is a red flag as much as a $90k sports car is to the IRS for business use!

People come up with creative ways for sure. If you succeed congratulations! Just don't be surprised to get a nastygram asking you to report to the naughty room after muster. ;)

Smuggling liquor in places you aren't supposed to have it isn't new for sure. Rock concert goers have pushed this arena to the brink of crazy...

Also (we don't) but two cruise lines come to mind with smuggling. Royal Caribbean and Celebrity. It's right in the contract that they have the choice to deny boarding at embarkation day if prohibited items are found in your baggage or carry on! They issue no refunds either. So if you're on one of those lines you may want to consider the consequence. I'm sure if they were doing this it would be all over sites like cruisecritic.com so they probably have not but just be aware that they can.

In any case have a fun cruise! :D

There was a pretty good CNBC documentary on how cruise ships make their money: http://www.cnbc.com/id/29139914/

Sounds like with the extra (dining in specialty restaurants, excursions, booze), they do make money, but try at least to offer value for the money vs. what you would get on land at say a specialty restaurant. And at least they aren't like restaurants on highways where a captive audience has to pay high prices for terrible food.

"The second top moneymaker since the 1960s is the bar. On our cruise, the bar needs every passenger to buy $7.25 worth of drinks per day just to hit their target."

Just curious what specific job do you have on your cruise liner?
